Announcing: justaqrcode.com.

Tired of "free" QR code generators that are full of ads and trackers, that share your data, and that want to sell you something? Me too. Here's my act of resistance: I made a one-page site that works entirely in your browser to generate a simple QR code. And that's all it does. You can download the HTML page and run it locally, even. Read the source; nothing up my sleeves. Just a QR code.

My offer to you -- I will continue to pay for the domain name and web hosting for it, myself. If you find it valuable, you can pay it back by creating your own useful thing for the world and releasing it for free. Let's take back the friendly web, one vexingly-monetized utility at a time!

The greatest trick was that she played a tiny Kúrtag piece seamlesssly leading into the Schubert. called Márta’s Ligature (sic) (it’s from book 11 of Játékok, took me forever to find it). A tiny appetizer, sparse yet somehow densely compressed, against the 20+ minute rich expanse of the first mvt. of Schubert. Crazy.

A week ago I jumped on a train and took a three hour ride to listen to a two hour piano recital – Mitsuko Uchida played Beethoven Op. 90, some Schönberg, and Schubert D.960 at Gulbenkian in Lisbon.

Her interpretation of the Schubert, especially the unique phrasing that her liberal micro-tempi enable, was insane. You might know her recording from the 90s. This was like that × 1000.

Here’s Mitsuko, on stage after the performance. She looks genuinely happy in front of the piano. It was very good.

@HEX I would have saved so much money if I dared to brazenly ask for sample copies of everything nice that uses our typefaces. Maybe should you can write a “free sample” clause into your EULA?

@triple How big is the bigger glass? How small is the smaller glass? Which wine?

I once had a set of ridiculously large burgundy glasses from a French manufacturer. I tired it out, filled to the rim it held .6 litres, almost a full bottle 🙃

If you’re in the EU and haven’t done so already, please sign this petition to ban conversion therapy:

eci.ec.europa.eu/043/public/#/

8 countries have hit the required threshold (7 are required) and it hit the million-signature threshold about an hour ago. Sweden is <100 votes short of their threshold, Italy’s <10%, Denmark looks achievable. France, it seems, *really* hates conversion therapy, closing in on 10x their required threshold.

Excellent, excellent post: we must run governments--from local to federal--like households where everyone cares about everyone else (even when we don't fucking like them that much--we don't have to love or even like everyone we live in community with)

i’ve said it before and i’ll say it again: what we want is for these things to be run like a HOUSEHOLD… a home. A household still has a budget and an income and resources to manage; all the moving parts are the same but the focus is different.

a business will let every person in it die a terrible death if it makes the business profit. A household will spend it’s last dollar to keep the people in it safe and healthy.

A household will use money as a resource to add value to the lives of the people in the household. A business will use people as a resource to add monetary value to the business

We don’t want a government run like a business, we want a country run like a household. Because we live here.
