Today in our #Business_Intelligence module, we explored a data science case study on UK road collisions, using the latest dataset (updated Sep. 2025) from the Department for Transport (DfT), United Kingdom.

We went through the analytics cycle: business & data understanding, data preparation, developing a predictive model and model evaluation.

“For most of computing history, designers have been the authors of the visible world…But we are entering a new frontier. For the first time, the interface itself thinks. And when it thinks, the rules change”

#TIL if you use Claude to generate Python notebooks, you can ask it to create an ipynb file rather than a Jupyter notebook. Just use a plain text editor to save the notebook and open it in Jupyter Lab or VS Code.

Comes in very handy so that I don’t have to manually break the notebook into cells.

Recently I’ve been testing *Claude 3.5 Sonnnet’s* capabilities to assist with writing code for ML experiments.

The task was simple. Claude was asked to do the following:

1) Load an image dataset from a local path using the *datasets* library.

2) Create an embedding signature of the dataset using the fastai library.

“It could be that grant-application reviewers are biased against women or female-dominated disciplines, or, as previously male-dominated disciplines began to attract more women, the perception of the fields’ quality dropped.”

I’ve been experimenting recently with using neovim as an IDE. I have to say with the plugins and LSPs available, it’s a fairly decent multipurpose IDE.

The only drawback is that often the documentation for plugins and LSPs isn’t great and so you have to rely on the community to help you configure things. LSPs in particular are a bit of a pain to set up but once you’ve worked things out they’re pretty great and work quite well.

Definitely not for the faint of heart though!

“To keep up with this administrative overload, professors also often add a “second shift” to their schedule, returning to work at night, as well as on weekends and vacations, to catch up on the never-ending onslaught of demands on their time and attention. In the short term, this scheduling sleight of hand keeps departments functioning without requiring additional faculty or support staff but at the expense of long-term burnout and dissatisfaction.”
