Performing a live score during the screening of Dorothy Towers in Brighton next week, Thu 16 Nov at 8pm.
"This is the story of the legendary Clydesdale and Cleveland Towers, residential blocks in the centre of Birmingham. Completed in 1971 as a social housing development, the towers are located adjacent to Birmingham’s Gay Village.
Shot on 16mm, the film explores the complex relationship between architecture, community and memory. It features testimonials from residents and explores ideas of queer kinship and inheritance alongside experiences of HIV/AIDS in the 1980s/’90s. Dorothy Towers frames the buildings in a continuum of history that extends back to the city’s post-war redevelopment via its modernist underpasses and nightclubs.
This screening will be accompanied by a live score, composed and performed by Sean Burns and Lai Power.
FOLLOWED BY an in-conversation with filmmaker Sean Burns.
Supported by Arts Council England, National Lottery Heritage Fund and Paul Hamlyn Foundation."
