@mhoye paleo croutons /ducks.

In moderation they are beefy crunchy flavor boost. They keep for practically forever because there is nearly zero moisture.

What's this? A box from @pragprog?? Squee! My author copies are finally here!

Want your own? Sure, of course you do! You can grab an ebook or print copy of #Business Success with #OpenSource here: fossbiz.com

(and if you already have a copy, please post a review on Amazon! Reviews matter a lot more than they probably should, esp for independent authors)

/pls boost?

Shipping label on a box, showing that the box contains Bound Printed Matter and was sent by The Pragmatic Programmers. The box is open and reveals…packing paper! How exciting! (not so much)That’s more like it. Five copies of Business Success with Open Source were hiding under the packing paper.I’m holding out a copy of the book while a grey cat and an orange cat each sniff a corner of it. The book is more than twice as thick as my first one!

So the first step is to stop giving users false expectations with a settings name like "Colors". You can't change the default colors on the modern web, things just break. Instead we should have settings with an appropriate name. Introducing "Contrast Control"

Screenshot of Firefox "Contrast Control" settings. Description reads "Websites have a variety of foreground and background colors. Configure Nightly to use the same colors across websites for improved readability."

Radio group includes "Automatic (use system settings)", "Off", and "Custom".

If you use Fusion 360 and
A) are afraid of losing all your stuff one day (especially with the Hub change coming up) and exporting one by one sucks
-OR-
B) know you'll eventually abandon it for something less proprietary (also not looking to be lectured - i know about the alternatives - I've made a choice for my own reasons)

Backup all your stuff to local files. I use this:

In the US 10,000 pounds or a little over 4.5 metric tons is the breakpoint for a commercial drivers license. If towing it can go up to 11.4 metric tons.

Perversely there is a business tax loophole which requires the buyer of a truck or van to buy bigger. The requirement is 6000 lbs (2.8t) and a bed length of 6 feet (2m).

So I finally turned a recent popular post here into a proper story.

Teen on Musk’s DOGE Team Graduated from ‘The Com’

Wired reported this week that a 19-year-old working for Elon Musk‘s so-called Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) was given access to sensitive US government systems even though his past association with cybercrime communities should have precluded him from gaining the necessary security clearances to do so. As today’s story explores, the DOGE teen is a former denizen of ‘The Com,’ an archipelago of Discord and Telegram chat channels that function as a kind of distributed cybercriminal social network for facilitating instant collaboration.

For my hackathon project I did try to make CFA (Cat Factor Authentication, using your cat's microchip as a second factor) a thing 😆 The project did win a prize, but more for the experimentation then the actual result wpengine.com/blog/hackathon-de

Part of a blog post from WP Engine blog about a 2023 hackathon. There is a picture of Mango, a orange tabby cat, having his microchip scanned while the scanner is plugged into a Mac mini. In the background is a messy desk of someone who didn't know this is the photo they would use on an external blog site.
