@linc Sounds as if the "unlimited PTO" is just an ad of your employer company and nothing they truly believe in!? 6 weeks sounds pretty normal in EU, maybe even more with overtime and clever usage of public holidays. Also the law pushes for longer vacations without to many breaks, for best regeneration.

@preinheimer Each URL can have a set of multiple meta tags with deep links to their translated counterparts.

You could write a Javascript and use that to display a language switcher. But as you said, that would be a site specific solution. I'd rather prefer some kind of unobtrusive option in the users UI somewhere (like the small "translate" icons).

But honestly I always looked at these meta tags from a SEO perspective, as it helps search engines to understand translated site structures.

2025-06-12

@preinheimer there actually are meta-tags for that:

<link rel="alternate" hreflang="de" href="example.com/de/">

Browser just ignore them, probably for "good" reasons.

@naderman The Tidelift subscription was expected, but this new landing page isn't even remotely connected with Tidelift or sponsoring of your package.

I don't know, this feels shady to me - not all pages add a nofollow like packagist.org

Has anyone noticed that Tidelift donation links are redirected to a commercial page about SonarQube 🤯

The news seems to be "Sonar acquired Tidelift" and now all their funding links (check "composer fund") are being redirected.

Take this one for example from @naderman tidelift.com/funding/github/pa

Do the package authors know that their Tidelift links are pointing to Sonar ads now?

@towo Damn, thanks for sharing. Gumroad, or better Sahil, made a lot of mistakes in the last months.

I moved away from the platform, there are many (and better) alternatives out there.

@chrisonline Never touched Zendesk, so can't share differences. What I can share is: my"support via email" flow became increasingly difficult to handle and Zammad already brought improvements in certain areas.

I really love open source solutions and will always choose them if possible.

That's why the next step will be an integration between my platforms with n8n to sync customer details.

2024-11-18

Too many emails?
Support requests are piling up?
Chaos in your inbox?

Yes, that's me.

This weekend I finally took the time and installed Zammad. Another open-source success story from 🇪🇺

Let's see if it helps finding a better flow.

@linc wow, impressive how long you were able to stop that update. mine hit me months ago with this forced login to turn a light on. I wonder if someone will sue Philips for that move, I am pretty sure that this is not legal, as they sold it without this account restriction.

Anyway, when I ran into the issue I found out about the great app "Hue essentials", which is at least available for iOS, Android and Mac.

Much better then the original shitshow by Philips.

Sometimes you don't need a beach, if you can relax like this in your home country.

That cabin is the perfect place to get away from online/work for a few days.

Thanks 🇦🇹 for offering such beautiful places.

One year later I am here to admit that Gumroad is still the better option for my use-case than Lemonsqueezy.

I am using both sites now to reduce platform risk. But if I had the time, I would build some self-hosted Stripe (or Paddle) based marketplace

2022-12-21

@cmiksche Hahaha, 30% That is insane. Nowadays there are so many alternatives out there, that even 13% seems too much. I wondered if there isn’t some kind of open source „Stripe frontend“. Thank you for the link!

But then there are so many reasons to use a merchant of record… I’l share some link after I had the time to evaluate a couple of them.

2022-12-19

Checkout how Gumroad announced that change and how they seem to send a big 🖕 to every creator.

All of that was announced during the annual board meeting at which they also announced the best year ever with 8% higher win. And that they will lay off 50% of their staff.

2022-12-19

Before that, the payment processor fee was included, afterwards it isn't. So from less than 5% before to 10% + 2.9% Stripe fee. That is quite a loss and there are so many competitors out there nowadays.

Gumroad fee structure before and after
2022-12-19

Is someone here using #Gumroad? I am selling plugins for my time-tracker #Kimai (#PHP #Symfony based) there and they just announced a dramatic change in their fee structure. For me that will be a raise from 5% to 13%.

Someone around having the same issue? I am looking for a EU based platform which acts as merchant of record and offers similar features (selling subscriptions and one-time purchases).

@pierstoval I really enjoyed sending patches, but the Symfony CLI was always so convenient... ditching projects is always sad, but then you have more time for new adventures^^

Today I learned: there are filters in Mastodon. See phpc.social/filters - those are really neat!

Allows you to add word-filters like "ChatGPT" and then every post containing that word will be hidden. No more oh-so-funny generated "AI" content examples.

Today I learned: Server list for SSH autocompletion originates from .ssh/config and .ssh/known_hosts

After removing dozens of old entries from the known_hosts file, the autocomplete finally makes sense again.
