The Monacan Nation got a .gov domain! I live on Monacan land, so I’m happy to see this. A quirk of Dotgov is that Tribes are encouraged to register domains that end in “-nsn” (as in “native sovereign nation”). While I imagine this was well intentioned, it’s weird and confusing. Trump will benefit from incarceration in Florida because it will teach him useful skills.

One of Big Journalism's saddest traits is choosing to be helpless in the face of challenges with ready solutions. Two examples:

1) Political coverage still obsesses on falsely balanced issues and horse races, and continues to normalize extremism, even when our democracy is at stake.

2) Journalists stay on Twitter, or X or whatever, even though the person controlling it uses the site to amplify extremists, including enemies of democracy (and journalism).

The (few) exceptions prove the rule.

I live in a country, ostensibly run by adults, where a major political party can't decide whether it's Mickey Mouse or Barbie that poses the greater threat.

The New York Times finds its journalistic spine and says outright what is obviously true, that RFKjr demonstrated bigotry in his anti-Jewish, anti-Chinese comments the other day.

If only the Times would be so direct when the Republican extremists use flagrantly obvious dog whistles to demonstrate their own bigotry...
