I was promised a sci-fi future where robots would do all the menial tasks so that humans could focus on creating art and instead you assholes built robots to do the art so we all have to fight over the jobs doing menial tasks, good job.

@heuser creative, not sure the best way to consume mass connected conversations has been found yet, time for the next evolution!
Introducing my hobby coding project since xmas:
Mastotron!
It's a different interface to Mastodon, replacing the mindless "feed" of most social media with a network map of conversations and recent and popular posts.
👉 You can download it here: https://github.com/quadrismegistus/mastotron 🖖
There's easy, double-click installation for Mac and Linux; Windows is a bit trickier for now.
This is b new, so bound to be bugs. But if you can, give it a whirl, and let me know if it works and what you'd like to see!
(Archived from @shanselman)
1. I search for wife’s gift online.
2. She gets targeted ads for product (guessing due to similar IP/wifi).
3. She buys product before I have chance to give her the gift.
Just right-clicked a link in a mastodon post and copied it then sent it to someone and only then did it finally occur to me that it was completely a unfucked-with link. Not some BS redirect link that tracks where it came from and who I sent it to. Just a regular link.
@raynor sure it's very possible, and no, everything is not that simple. My argument for it is really, it does not prevent negativity in not implementing it, people would just go about negativity in a different way (direct replies).
IMO, It is more a tool to facilitate branching conversation out and preventing crowded replies.
Where negativity comes into play primarily I think, is Notifications on Twitter. Being informed that someone has QT you, you read the QT and an argument ensues. So question is, is it necessary to know that others have QT me? If it is, maybe even hide the actual content a bit further to not push people to actively monitor and reply to them.
IF you own, or moderate that content (potentially including replies to said content), it is imperative to give an easy way to reference another conversation. It doesn't have to be implemented the same as Twitter visually, but you and others should be able to easily reference it.
And even if replies are left publicly open, qt is a way to branch a discussion to your timeline, rather than continue it on someone else's.
Gonna give some thoughts on "quote tweets" for Mastodon. Seen some argue that qt is inherently negative so it would be bad to include.
Whether something is negative or not should not play a factor in implementing it, because as we all know, uses of anything can be good and bad.
What it comes down to IMO, and why it is so effective and people like using it, is timelines...
I don't feel as strongly about quote posts as I did in 2018. Personally, I am not a fan, but there is clearly a lot of demand for it. We're considering it.
That is the thing about being an *adult*. You can buy whatever toys you want, and nobody can stop you. So I am completing all of my childhood dreams slowly. Hah. #AdultHood
If Musk "steps down" as Twitter CEO, per his latest bogus "poll", some things to remember:
1) He'll still be in control. The owner sets the policy the CEO carries out. The owner decides in the end.
2) He lies incessantly. Nothing he says can be trusted, ever.
3) Big Journalism will breathlessly cover the charade as if it meant something, and will continue to support a man who loathes honest reporting and has contempt for genuine freedom of expression.
