It appears that some universities are banning masks of any kind at sites where they are holding their graduation ceremony. This is ableist, exclusionary, and completely unacceptable.

Decided in a vague Saturday morning kind of way to use this acct as some kind of alt place, so I deactivated the migratory auto-forwarding and here I am, wondering what the hell to post here instead of the other acct where I still wander with my few followers.

I had been clinging to a false notion that when a lot of people and institutions in my life—people who had been accommodating white supremacy etc—were finally confronted with incontrovertible evidence of the ugliness they supported, they would at last turn from it in revulsion.

And, when the incontrovertible proof arrived, some did turn away in revulsion—a few. Only a few.

Mostly, though ... well.

@dangillmor I refuse to call people anti-maskers or anti-vaxxers anymore. They are clearly pro-Covid. During a worldwide pandemic that has killed millions, they choose to side with the disease and death.

There were two competing visions at the dawn of the modern digital era: in one camp, you had people who saw computers as a way to empower people to push back against corporate and state control; in the other camp, there were the people who wanted to use computers to transfer power from the public to corporations or governments.
