@bit101 I'm excited to see if I can remove my reliance on iCloud storage for my massive iPhone media library. I'm paying for additional cloud space monthly because I ran out of space on the phone.

I plan to setup Immich on a server at home and backup my entire library to it, then figure out some kind of regular sync for all new photos/videos taken with my phone. Have you done something like this with Immich?

My new home networking setup and server rack is almost "complete", but I've decided to add a dedicated Proxmox machine into the mix.

It'll live on this Lenovo ThinkCentre M920Q mini computer. I love the case design and overall form factor of this little machine.

I'll install Proxmox on the 128GB NVMe drive. The 1TB SSD will hold all VMs, storage, web servers, database servers, and other services.

@jibsaramnim Oh no 😣 That's frustrating. Fingers crossed they can help figure it out.

2025-05-29

@jibsaramnim Yes I definitely plan to document it to some degree on my blog :)

@shapr Holy crap, super cool. I've used Python's simple HTTP server for quick website work, etc. but never thought to use it like this.

My home server and networking setup is about to get an overhaul 😎

• All equipment is going into a rack
• All cables will go into a patch panel first
• New Ubiquiti router/gateway, PoE switch, and Wi-Fi access point
• Setting up VLANs for network segmentation
• Going through every part of my network and security hardening

Damn, not bad for working from my truck while connected to my iPhone's Wi-Fi hotspot ⚡️⚡️⚡️

I love a good Hollywood hacking scene 😄 This is from a pretty terrible TV show called Revenge.

@bit101 Oh I wasn't sure how it handled being killed and rerun, that is nice.

2025-05-16

@bit101 It's so good. I want to use it for everything.

I ran my `rsync` script overnight and it moved a few terabytes of data without interruption!

I just learned about the `caffeinate` command in macOS. I'm using it to prevent my MacBook from idle sleeping during a long-running `rsrync` task that backs up my NAS data to a USB hard drive.

@squads Thanks! I've never used Ghost. The closest comparison I have is with Craft CMS, since I've built a lot of websites with Craft. It's similar in a lot of ways but configuration is done via code in Wagtail versus a GUI in Craft. I much prefer configuration in code since it makes reusing fields, components, etc. much easier within a project but also across different projects.

We had a perfect Spring day yesterday with clear blue skies and the crisp, sweet air of blossoming flowers. We ended the day watching the night sky fall with a fire and marshmallows 🦉🌳🔥🌌

Everything is turning green and I get to enjoy it by working outside in this lovely peaceful space 💚

I've really been enjoying working from the back deck this week. We've had several 70+ degree days and everything is coming to life ☀️🌳🐦‍⬛🌱

2025-04-18

@jibsaramnim I setup an RSS feed as well 😄

I redesigned my personal blog! It's now powered by Wagtail, which is a powerful CMS built on top of Python's Django web framework.

It's been a great learning experience and also just a lot of fun writing vanilla CSS again and coming up with a simple design that meets my needs.

The focus is on very readable text and flexible grids of nicely-presented photos.

I learned how to change my first motorcycle tire. It was quite a struggle despite following many tips, but I'm sure it'll get easier with practice.

This test was with an old tire, but I have a new front and rear ready to go on this weekend so I'll get more practice very soon!
