Yes please, ramp it up Americans. I can't bear the thought that you were once leading humanity into peace and democracy and you now represent a declining nation. Forget about MAGA, this is the death of America. I hope you don't pull us Europeans into this decline ... I'd hate to think that one day my grandchildren would be looking at Cine or Russia as examples to lead the world.
Protesters fill the streets in cities across the US to denounce #Trump agenda - https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025/apr/19/anti-trump-rallies-protests "Organizers call for 11 million people to march and rally in this weekend’s effort to ‘protect democracy’" great; now ramp it up
The America I loved is gone - https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/ng-interactive/2025/apr/20/american-dream-trump-canada "It was a nation of dreams, built for the screen. Then it shattered" nicely written

And how much is it costing the environment to store all this meaningless data that only AI can benefit from.
@futurebird
@futurebird Saying “the Internet is dead” is problematic for all the reasons you cite … but maybe “how MUCH of the Internet is dead?” is a more interesting question. What percentage of content is never seen by humans (AI slop, SEObait, random automated data etc)? What percentage of traffic is pointless bot activity, spam, click-fraud attempts etc? How much storage is devoted to duplicate data, unwatched videos & pics from everyone’s phones etc?
It may not be dead, but there’s a lot of decay.
An existential threat to EU stability from within. The EU has to find better ways to deal with authoritarian governments that make their way to governing Europeans. Too much democracy (unanimity in EU voting) is a risk for survival of democracy itself in EU. Unanimity is noble in principal and allows representing the ideas of minorities but absolute majority or majority of two thirds of countries would be a good compromise between governability and representing ideas of minority countries.

I can't believe that this level of threatening is going on. In liberal democracies, universities have always been the place where free thinking is encouraged. But free thinking is a threat to power. I hope Americans wake up and impeach this idiot.

I'm still in disbelief that what was once considered the greatest democracy in the world can get it so wrong. More than anything, this is a demonstration that defending democratic values has now become of second order. But have we not been here before? We are not studying our recent history anymore ...

It'll be interesting to see how US - EU talks on trading go and whether we too get hormone beef and chlorinated chicken as a result. I'd like to think that EU legislative framework will protect us continentals but well see.
The EU ought to screw Orban and his authoritarian bullshit. I don't understand how EU rules allow this to happen. The EU was built on principles of democracy that were written in the middle of a war that had devastated Europe. Yet, we still tolerate this erosion of democracy. How can Hungarians just watch this happen?

Trump is noto getting anywhere with Russian pesce talks so this is a useful distraction form the world. Media is full of trade wars and almost nothing on the war in Ukraine.

I can't believe that gestapo like methods are being used in what was once believed to be the biggest democracy in the world. Clearly, democracy is not in vogue anymore, is it?
