@rosamundi Unfortunately I was in my shorts...
@goo I'm sure that was bad enough!
@goo Have you actually seen my legs?! π±
@mzdt I usually do have emergency trousers in my locker, but not today. Doh! Fortunately in the office myself today.
It is officially #WearLycraAtWorkDay. Otherwise known as, the day I forgot to bring in my work trousers. π±π #cycling
What is the justification to allow either the driver or motorcyclist to have a driving license again? Is there one?! The risks of driving in the way they did is obvious, yet they chose to do it. Why then allow them back on the roads? #DangerousDriving https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-edinburgh-east-fife-66452169
@jfparis Ha. I definitely don't have any! π
It's not often you get a world championship elite road race following part of your cycle commuting route to work. π #Torrance #BalmoreRoad #uciworldchampionships2023
@largess The physics is simple. Heat pumps are at least 3 times more efficient than electric boilers (almost certainly more). That's not an insignificant amount and is saving us money.
A heat pump is just as capable of heating and storing hot water, so I'm really not sure what you're trying to get at there.
Eek! @BBCScotlandNews why on earth did you base your #HeatPump bashing article today on this guy's opinions?! It's blindly obvious to anyone who has any technical understanding that he either knows nothing about the subject or is incredibly biased. Have a listen though prepare to get angry... π± https://youtu.be/w7bpS5Lprb0
@dx That's surprising. All the ones we were offered operated lower than that. Mind you, our winters are usually mild as well.
@dx How old is your pump? Most new ones, including mine can operate down to about -20C. Of course it won't be as efficient as3 that temperature but it doesn't break down. Mind you when I had a had combi boiler it would often stop working when it got very cold as the condensate pipe would freeze!
And I forgot you can edit posts here! Now edited! π
@billheywood Exactly. His comments highlight that he's either completely uneducated on the subject or significantly biased.
@magnatom
He's talking tosh, heat pumps work at much lower than - 5C in Nordic countries
Even in winter, a heat pump operating at 300%efficiency is going to be cheaper to run than an electric boiler in the 90%efficiency range
@lionelb I agree we need to make changes...I only heat my house to 18.5C for example, but the reality is that if everyone kept their heating levels the same and we converted all our gas boilers to hear pumps, we'd make a huge dent in our path to reducing emissions. That and transport decarbonisation (more active travel not just EVs) is our way forward.
I've just read... "Labour peer & businessman Lord Willie Haughey, whose company is one of Scotland's leading suppliers of #heatpump , told BBC Radio's Good Morning Scotland ... electric boilers would be more cost-effective & environmentally-friendly options for most Scottish homes." I've no idea what company this man runs, but the physics of what he says is complete nonsense! Direct electric heating cannot be more efficient than a heat pump! https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-66372469 #climatechange
@lionelb Central heating is not a luxury. I grew up in a house that was only partially heated and suffered many chest infections as a result. Houses can be heated and insulated so that they run efficiently.
