Meg

I like video games, programming languages, and hacking things up with old video game hardware. I also post a lot about TV I'm watching, and sometimes books I'm reading too.

At my day job I hack on dev tools for a moonshot operating system, and I think Plan 9 is cool. I've also worked on social networks, streaming, and low level network software in the past at companies big and small.

Used to stream on twitch (as megmactv) but don't really anymore.

Anything I say here is 1000% my own opinion and probably no one, including any employers I have or have had in the past agree with me.

@bink all pizzas are special and worthy of love

@mcc what a shocking result lol

@linux_mclinuxface it's *a* kind but it's not the kind I mean.

Edmonton will never be a Real City(tm) until I can get actually authentic deep dish pizza delivered to me on demand.

@ClarusPlusPlus @jadedtwin even if you wanted to keep Windows on it it'd still probably be better to reinstall it fresh anyways to shed whatever OEM crapware they bundled in.

@ClarusPlusPlus use a virtual machine instead if you do need to use Windows imo

Anyways PCs with Windows included have the product key burned into the BIOS these days afaik, so you should be able to blow it away and reinstall fresh later if you change your mind.

@skylark13 @mcc lol of course

I dunno if that really helps the trust thing though

@mcc the real question is: Gosling or Reynolds?

Anyways I really hope skull n co come out with a switch 2 compatible dock at some point. I really really like the jumpgate for being useful with a wide diversity of devices.

It's really baffling to me that Nintendo made the switch 2 dock not work with switch 1 consoles.

This thing where tv shows take forever to start filming the next season is really wreaking havoc on the credibility of child characters on them, who can wind up going from pre-teen to tween to nearly an adult in what's supposed to be a couple of weeks of story time.

perhaps the most haunting frame this show has ever produced

Anyway, maybe this is a naive and un-lawyer-y thing to say, but I always liked that the ActivityPub/Mastodon network seems to be an entire data ecosystem based entirely on laches. Nobody gave anyone else permission to rehost their content, but everyone *knows it's happening* (it's on the signup page), so nobody can get upset about it.

Meanwhile, the protocol does have measures (deletion notices) that look to me like "putting a latch on it" and unambiguously communicate withdrawal of permission.

Wait wait what they made more Are You Afraid of the Dark in 2019-2022??

@TheZeldaZone AppleTV in particular puts more effort into intros than many producers put into entire tv shows.

@britt I use Mastodon bookmarks as "I want to be able to search for this later" because of the in:library search operator. I don't usually go back and look at them manually though.

@robyn @Jeneric I guess they might consider those racks as like dual purpose quasi-bollards or something?

@TheZeldaZone honestly it'd probably be easier to list the AppleTV+ originals that aren't somewhere between Very Good and Genuinely Great. It's very much a quality over quantity streamer.

@mcc how very objective-c

(Edit: Originally said Smalltalk but I got the nil behaviour backwards between them I think)

@ClarusPlusPlus I think the times when I actually go to a patreon and might convert to paying are when there are non-paid posts, either because they were timed-exclusive or free from the start. I'm very unlikely to ever sign up to a patreon with no public posts cold.

So imo the best way is to have some regular free posts and promote those, but with a note that there's more to see/you can see things earlier if you pay.
