a small cat caught in time's headlights

in case it's not clear from the contents of my timeline, i don't know anything about anything

apparently this needs saying, so:
DO NOT BARGE INTO MY MENTIONS
TO PICK A FIGHT. i come here to chill
out, not argue. if arguing chills you out,
go somewhere else.

block early, block often,
block right wingers on sight

#nobot #nocops #acab

beyond the waves i will be free
while all the others are praying

@drscriptt @furicle i assume understanding full well why you need admin rights to do X, but still regularly trying to do it without the local sudo equivalent first and swearing when you remember, and then swearing even more when you fail to type your password correctly twice, is perfectly ok though ;-)

@wingo thanks! (but gosh, those slides render slowly on my poor little GX-420GI-based thin client...)

ed. only on xpdf, they're fine on zathura using the poppler engine 🤷‍♀️

@tante @brianmerchant the version of Luddism that the people who defeated it made sure was recorded in the history books, a kneejerk rejection of all things technological? or real Luddism, which insisted that technology should only ever be deployed as augmentation to labour, rather than used to replace it in order to destroy labourers' collective power?

because i'm reading a lot of people in your comments here who appear to have taken it to mean the former, and... when the latter is perhaps more necessary than ever before, that's annoying.

@alcinnz @phryk @vertigo not necessarily interpreted - but interactive is a must. incremental compilation to bytecode or threaded code (like Forth, or Smalltalk, or some Lisps) is especially useful, because it combines the compactness of tokenisation (thus making the most of the memory available) with a turn of speed you can't get otherwise.

Drew Barrymore pauses the show until the strike is over.

More proof that bullying the rich into making ethical decisions is important and the morally correct thing to do

I have listened to everyone, and I am making the decision to pause the show's premiere until the strike is over. I have no words to express my deepest apologies to anyone I have hurt and, of course, to our incredible team who works on the show and has made it what it is today. We really tried to find our way forward. And I truly hope for a resolution for the entire industry very soon.

Auto workers are demanding a 40% raise to match the 40% pay increase CEOs of the Detroit automakers got over the past 4 years.

CEOs are calling this absurd, but they couldn't be more wrong.

THIS IS A COMPROMISE. Why? Because worker's real wages have fallen 30% over the past 20 years. They're foregoing 16 years of wage theft for 4 of equity, and consistent equity going forward. That's basic justice.

Pay workers. Unionize workers. Tax billionaires. Save our economy.

FUCK OFF CLOUDFLARE

this is what i got trying to look at the #Veilid source code. which... you know, raises some questions

a Cloudflare MITM screen saying "gitlab.com needs to review the security of your connection" and demanding i prove i'm human

@Mek101 @alcinnz not necessarily. look at Chez Scheme, for example. uses tagged pointers on the C stack.

@ianewing @tedivm it'd also be nice if the tech workers putting up a whinge actually gave a little thought to the idea "this is what you can make happen when you unionise"

@leah i just tried it, and it happily pasted back the several rows i deleted with dr as columns - so thanks! (the bigger problem might that sc crashes if you try to delete too much at once...)

is there a text-mode (DOS or Posix) spreadsheet that can trivially switch rows and columns, so you can view your spreadsheet sideways with a single command?
