Very happy to read today that OCLC realized it was in the wrong and dismissed MM from its lawsuit v. Anna's Archive: https://www.courtlistener.com/docket/68157923/48/oclc-online-computer-library-center-inc-v-annas-archive/

who named it the "pine barrens" when "Loréal forest" was right there #newjersey #nj
@anarchivist we'll be there!
If 0.015 is "big" to Donald #Trump, well, that explains some things.
The land area of #Seattle is 53,113 acres (https://www.seattle.gov/opcd/population-and-demographics/about-seattle#landuse).
Protestors took over 0.015% of the city.
The protestors occupied part of the Capitol Hill neighborhood, ranging from 2-6 city blocks over the course of the 23-day protest. A city block downtown averages 1.3 acres (https://www.theurbanist.org/2024/01/19/the-numbers-that-make-your-city/), so to be generous, the protestors "took over" roughly 8 acres of the city.
I do not condone elder abuse but I quite enjoyed the debate
what dingus called it "copy cataloging" when "mutually assured description" was right there? #libraries
next time you're in a gen alpha-themed buffalo wing spot and you need to wipe the saucy mess off your hands, ask for a skibidi towelette, they will understand
If I were working undercover to expose unsavory deeds by the Sandman author, my go-to cocktail party opener would be "I'm mole for Gaiman!"
who all is going to #OR2024 next week?
haven't conferenced in so long (2019) that I forget how any of this works
@no_reply Big yikes! Wishing you nothing but the best for this next phase of your career. 🙂 You've done far more than your "fair share" for libraryland.
OCLC's lawyers are having their Proctorio moment
@dsalo Sorry if I implied that you implied I did something wrong! 😆
I'm glad you replied with what you did, because I've always respected and valued your POV, plus it gave me an opportunity to reflect on why I wrote what I did.
@dsalo That said, I also did reach out after I posted my thread to ask if she had ideas about how folks can support her directly and she is mulling it over, so there may be an opportunity for us to help more (offset legal fees, etc.) in the near future.
@dsalo I've felt the same way. But then reading OCLC's response to the motion to dismiss yesterday---which made plain that they are basing this lawsuit on a house of cards---sent me over the edge.
I'm OK with what I wrote because I don't feel like my point was "about" MM, but about a frivolous, predatory lawsuit that could just as easily target dozens/hundreds of library tech folk, and I figure they need to know about this if they don't already.
@dbs @pbinkley I have an "A" in my first name and my last name, which means my name is basically "A 'n' A" which is the same as "Anna." Which, because I just typed this out, I've used this name online, thus it is my name.
I'm sure I've tweeted lots o' times about wanting information to be free.
I ported a Perl call number-parsing library to Python, which apparently already satisfies the preponderance of evidence burden of proof for civil cases.
Maybe we all need to lawyer up.
