@Gammitin those Matrix cards were just -covered- in components. I remember my G400 MAX was extremely densely populated.

When I was younger I used to read science fiction, some which predicted a post scarcity world where we’d cured diseases and aging while others predicted technology powered dystopian police states.

When you see a budget with $4B for curing cancer and $170B for mass deportations & detention centers, it’s clear which future America has chosen.

@brainwagon whaaaat.

I've read the article on Wikipedia several times but somehow not picked up on that even though it states it is a "test scene designed to evaluate the accuracy of rendering software by comparing a rendered image with a photograph of a real-world model". It's the first sentence for crying out loud. (:

“You want fantasy? Here’s one... There's this
species that lives on a planet a few miles
above molten rock and a few miles below a
vacuum that'd suck the air right out of them.
They live in a brief geological period
between ice ages, when giant asteroids have
temporarily stopped smacking into the
surface. As far as they can tell, there’s
nowhere else in the universe where they
could stay alive for ten seconds.

And what do they call their fragile little slice
of space and time? They call it real life. In a
universe where it is known that whole
galaxies can explode, they think there’s
things like ‘natural justice’ and ‘destiny’.
Some of them even believe in democracy...
I'm a fantasy writer, and even I find it all a
bit hard to believe.”

At work I've de facto taken over a codebase of questionable quality.
I noticed a bug the other day where the RTC would stop incrementing -- which worked recentlish -- and after a brief bisection I traced it to a commit which switched two PIOs from SW bit banging to hw PWM.

Please send help.

I wonder if Unity has realized that what they really just did was create a strong incentive to never create a Unity project again. Only open the old ones so you can close them out. No new ones needed

Last week I presented over at @joyofcoding on energy efficient programming & design. At some point a video might become available, but here are my annotated slides which also tell the story. Includes lots of data! berthub.eu/joc/with-notes.pdf

@mihamarkic @randahl not during his term, obviously, because this isn't a banana republic: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poul_Sch

@jesper_linnet it's peculiar, because this seems like one of those things that happens all the time in commercial software made by people who don't use it themselves, so no one really cares or notices. You almost never see stuff like this in open source because.

A Firefox update seems to have rolled out which adds yet another icon to the menu bar which means the address line is now barely visible.
I wonder how someone made this, looked at it, and thought: "This is an improvement."
