@rowlandm That’s interesting. It would seem logical that in person conferences offer a lot more opportunity for that kind of connection.
But what do we really know about it, right?

Where Special Education Law Meets Imposter Phenomenon

What kind of teacher doesn't know the answers?
Writers gonna write, and I wrote a blog post.
It's about how school culture creates expectations for easy answers and solutions.

easy to say, but what a rewarding challenge in practice #education #inclusion #mentalhealth
Laura Balogh and I will be presenting about school #inclusion for students with significant social, emotional, and behavioral challenges, at Lesley University's Community of Scholars Day on March 29th. Lesley University is strong in #education and therapy, so it's a great place for us to talk about how our work brings both together.
The event is free to anyone and virtual, we'll do a short session from 11:30 - 12:00.
You can register for the event below:

It was a pleasure to have you as a guest- The Therapeutic Inclusion Program is a must read for administrators and exceptional education teachers looking for a high quality model. Definitely listen to the podcast- but also buy the book!

I want to thank @drrscottlee and The Thoughtful Teacher Podcast for talking with me and my co-author this year.
I've seen good engagement, but not nearly as much as is needed and called for. I'm not certain what factors contribute to that, but cultural stigma, siloing, and people not being aware that a book about therapeutic inclusion programs exists, are factors.
I'm certainly going to keep at it in 2024, and I look forward to talking with any interested stakeholders. In 2024 I'll be presenting about this at the American Group Psychotherapy Association Conference, consulting with school districts, teaching group dynamics at Lesley University, working with individuals and families, and we shall see what else.
That may sound like a lot, but it doesn't add up to much unless we can develop a community and conversation about therapeutic inclusion in public schools.
Have a happy new year!
I have some new year thoughts. 🧵
In 2023 my book with Laura Balogh was published: The Therapeutic Inclusion Program.
It is, remarkably, the only book dedicated to describing what inclusion should look like in k12 public schools for students with significant social, emotional, and behavioral challenges.
One of the major motivations for writing The Therapeutic Inclusion Program is that there is so little professional discourse taking place between the thousands of school districts trying to provide programming for these students.
I hoped to get more conversations going in the process of writing the book, and certainly after it was published. I have to admit that I'm discouraged that it still mostly seems like people working in this domain, and other stakeholders such as administrators, parents, students, and former students, are not engaging in the conversation.
I perversely enjoy a corporate sentence of incomprehensible nonsense such as this:
A recommended approach to program classroom culture in a therapeutic inclusion program
Good evening UK!
I have some sales data on our book The Therapeutic Inclusion Program - and it says that 18% of our book sales have been in the UK.
Who wants to tell me about educational inclusion efforts for students with significant social, emotional, and behavioral challenges, in the UK?
I'm doing some googling but I don't really feel like I'm getting a feel for it.
