William Montrose

I draw fonts for a living.

@typeoff @db It could affect the UK though? I'm 100% certain that somewhere on the shoreline of Clacton-on-Sea sits a very grumpy fisherman who is deeply, terribly hurt by your rampant shopping spree of British niche-design titles in an attempt to rob the country of its cultural heritage.

@typeoff @db I just received a months-old, additional import-tax-added order (on top of the 20€ for shipping) for a book from the UK. If I hadn't wanted it so badly, I never would've gone through that insane ordeal. A book, FFS!

@fhardwig @typotheque @typeoff I’ll leave this here in case anyone is interested; there’s a new exhibition on “Das Neue Frankfurt” city planning program that just opened: museumangewandtekunst.de/de/be

@TiroTypeworks @sajatype That's great too, it means that at least you retain full ownership. ;)

@TiroTypeworks The next time I feel the need to explain to family members (again) that my looong canine-accompanied forest ventures can be considered working hours, I'll refer them to this post.

@peirantan A strong contender and maybe not even in the same category of ATypI longshots. I'll keep manifesting until it becomes a reality, though :)

@marsidesino @florian @triple Good point, prioritizing English over everything might not help foster a better understanding of how these agreements (and their implications) work. Maybe the reason US/UK-based clients engage more deeply with licensing terms compared to European ones can not be exclusively attributed to how different the respective legal systems are designed. 🤔

Our website is available in German and English for everything, including legal agreements. Some elements (especially about texts) are really fun to write, and it’s often very interesting to go back and forth between the languages. It’s a lot of extracurricular activity, and after seven years, I’m still looking for a clear answer to that question.

@elih Are you suggesting there’s a chance that the font industry might ride out the current enshittification wave by simply being a bit behind?

@jenskutilek Rest in Paris, I hope she’s feeling the warm wind in her hair right now...

@simoncozens It would be great if Glyphs had a native variable preview. I'm just glad that @mark2mark – and not to forget @tosche_e – made something to address that.

@alvaroefe I'm also curious if there is something that could be considered an “industry standard”.
