@reading_recluse we can't like everything 😔
@reading_recluse great publisher and great translator! Too bad about the book though 😆
@AnthoDerv I asked in a translation server once about terms and somebody sent me an answer from ChatGPT--a complete waste of time for both of us since obviously I could have done that if I wanted to and I'd already been doing regular searching for ages and wanted an opinion from a human being for a sanity check.
And this was an industry veteran. Excuse me while I rip out all of my hair and scream.
@sleepytako @tokyohomo For the payment cap? No, you just have to agree for the information to be sent when you do the card reading machine. It's a bit different than applying for it in advance though in the sense that you pay past the cap and get a refund later (I think it has about a 2-month delay). If you apply in advance, then you just stop paying once you reach the cap, but you have to apply every month, which is impractical when you go over the cap every single month like I do lol

"Every summer, I repost this article DROWNING DOES NOT LOOK LIKE DROWNING. To date, I know of FOUR kids who were saved after someone who'd clicked on the link learnt how to spot actual drowning. Take time to read and pass on."
@tokyohomo I don't use my insurance card anymore because using MyNumber automatically registers me for overpayment refunds.
Which I get monthly because the hospital has a grip on me 😭
@life Book title saves the day!
@reading_recluse How very right you are! Thanks for the reminder!
@reading_recluse Thanks! It's an unimportant milestone, but at least I accomplished something 😅
I finished my first reading goal of the year while sitting at the hospital today! I've officially read 52 books and there's still a whole half year left. I don't really have this goal as some kind of competition against myself or others, but rather more as a sign of how well I am or I'm not doing.
I've been doing pretty poorly in a lot of ways, but I still have my head on straight enough to do my favourite thing--reading. When the number of books I finished suddenly plummets, I know that I'm in a bad way and should probably see if there's anything I can do about that.
So even though it's an arbitrary number and I've been having a really hard time lately, the fact that I'm still able to read is a positive point. I'm going to consider the fact that I've reached this milestone several months earlier than I did last year to indicate that I'm doing at least a bit better than I thought I was overall 🔥
@nosword smell is why I can't understand how people swear by Airism. That stuff never smells clean after it's been sweated in...
@takosix Or if mold would grow on it at all with all the preservatives I'm sure it's full of 😱
@takosix I like this flavour combo, but the melon pan just looks moldy to me 😅
@tokyobybike @glen_malley You can make chocolate pudding with it too. Even with almost no sweetener added, it's delicious 😋
@brook I wonder how many degrees the amount of concrete adds to that temperature 😭
@reading_recluse I hadn't even read your alt text! That's so funny 😂
@reading_recluse Cozy fiction is a bit weird for me. Some definitely do it better than others, but I don't find them particularly mindblowing either. I think the type that are interconnected short stories that use one location as a connection probably work better. Easier for imperfections and variation that way too. I will admit that they aren't my preference though. I definitely find myself gravitating towards non-fiction and speculative SF this year. Escapism that also gives me hope (sometimes) and tackles difficult issues.
I do find it a shame that most of the covers that are published in translation whether in Japanese or in Korean tend to have really similar covers though... The books I recently read in Japanese that have an English translation both have a cat on the cover and there is no cat in the story...at all lol
@reading_recluse Oh, this stuff makes me so mad.
@takosix I've been on one a few times I think, between Tokyo and Toronto 😅
@takosix I'm down.
