I’ve been running this Mastodon instance for almost 8 years now, and it's been a privilege to provide a space where our community can connect, share and grow together.
Over the years, I’ve personally covered 40-60% of the monthly costs - including the main server (EUR55.40/month) and this year added with S3 storage (EUR5–10/month based on the traffic and it's growing). While there is currently USD38/month in Patreon donations, it only covers about half / less than half of the total cost.
To keep things going, I’ve continued paying the remaining amount out of my own pocket. I’ve also had to cut back on daily server backups since long time ago as it costs around 20% extra on top of the EUR55.40/month, just to keep monthly expenses manageable.
Now things have reached a point where it’s no longer sustainable for me alone, especially as I have ongoing medication expenses to cover as well.

Buddy is officially in Palliative Care now. He got lots of pain medication, a shot and IV today at the vet so he feels a lot better. His hips are going. He's got a lot of pain in his back legs, but he still wants to be with us and so the vet says he is not suffering constantly yet. We can give him pain medication and for appetite to keep him going maybe a week maybe a couple weeks.
He has only eaten maybe 6 meals out of 28 in last two weeks. Lost 4 pounds in this last month and it shows. He turned down all his favorite treats. When he turned down bacon I got our appointment. We did find out he will eat a cooked hamburger patty! Prime beef. At 15 now he’s got all the symptoms he won’t live much longer. I’m glad to try Palliative care for him.

The Times has said repeatedly that its mission doesn't include saving democracy. This is only the latest evidence of its indifference.

A photo that I snapped an hour ago of the San Francisco #NoKings protest. I estimate about 150,000 people in total.
A woman on the back of a truck shouted through a loudspeaker that the #protest was #peaceful. “The real #violence is coming from the #police,” she said.
Not until 5:08PM, about an hour later, did cellphones show an emergency alert saying an unlawful assembly had been declared.
The #LAPD posted on X that a dispersal order had been announced for those at the federal bldg [like that’s sufficient?!]….
At least 6 people were injured, w/ blood gushing down one man’s face & another man carried off on a makeshift stretcher.
What had been a calm demonstration in downtown #LA quickly turned chaotic when #police on horseback charged at the crowd, striking some w/ wood #rods & #batons as they cleared the street.
