Them: Faving posts on Mastodon is useless, only the OP sees it.
Me, when a post gets faved: awwww, little internet hug ✨
Oh yeah Twitter… that place I go to find people’s mastodon addresses.
@Jeanne I use vim basically every day on our cluster. If you deal with a lot of servers, sometimes it's the only editor installed, and then you have to know how to make it do things to get work done. Fortunately, there's only a handful of things you need to know to get basic text editing done. My list: exit, save and exit, save, exit without save, allow editing, stop allowing editing, search, find and replace. Everything else is googleable and infrequent enough to not slow you down.
@nathanalbert My institution announced this summer that it officially doesn't support the oxford comma and I was Upset.
@elsevier Too real to be parody. 😆

#ScienceTwitter has been a source of good for me during the last 4 (!) years of setting up a lab, #NewPI, so now I'm here
So since the pandemic began, the subway has been generally 1 person per seat, and people will stand rather than joining you in a seat. Super polite. Now that pan-fatigue is in, and subways are getting busier, that's breaking down, which. Fine. I'm still masking anyway.
But I forgot how delightful it is to read over people's shoulders on the subway. I was between someone reading an Avengers comic and someone reading a really thick novel today. It was amazing!
Just as I was getting used to it! https://gizmodo.com/mastodon-toot-retired-twitter-tweet-equivalent-1849786221
@thesiswhisperer Thanks for sharing. My favorite line:
One user wrote: “It is the most shattering experience of a young person’s life when one morning they awake and quite reasonably say to themself: ‘I shall never toot again.’ When that moment comes, one’s ambition ceases.”
@grimalkina It is! And it's even better to feel like I'm not stumbling around in the dark. Thanks for your talk and for your work!
Awesome talk by @grimalkina that really solidifies a lot of ideas I've had about team dynamics in the last year. I never had the words for it! We started down the 'learning culture' road this year: postmortems, retrospectives, celebrating wins. Still more left to go, and now I have some resources to know where to go/try/fail next! https://neverworkintheory.org/2022/11/01/hicks-learning.html
@SarahMackAttack I bet it wakes you up in the morning
i probably shouldn't toot this but sneaking around the #nanopore labs i have managed to get my hands on this prototype pore, codenamed "long brew"
Is there an online schedule for #biodata22 for non-attendees? Curious what talks are when so I can watch the tweet/toot stream.
