@mpe good post, justified anger and indeed something for all university press managers to read. To learn a new word (eleemosynary), an etymology (of the word prestige that originally meant trick or illusion) or, most importantly, to be advised to check the contract or bylaws of incorporation between UP and institution.
What is a University Press?
On the acquisition of AUP by T&F (and my anger at it), the governance link between universities and university presses, and putting one's labour where one's values are.
BREAKING: President Zelenskyy has offered to negotiate a peace deal between Donald Trump and Elon Musk.
“I know Trump well. I know Musk well. I would get that war ended in a period of 24 hours. One hundred per cent, it would be easy. That deal would be easy.”
@petrichor @jonny @SafeguardingResearch glad it is of interest!
@mia thank you! It's early days, but this is very promising
Today I feel HOPEFUL.
My new rheumatoid arthritis meds appear to be... WORKING. This is absolutely incredible! I have spent 3 years now in CONSTANT AGONY without a working drug. The new biological therapy is lifting the pain.
I have a spinal problem somewhat separate to this (the RA has fused my spinal vertebrae, so it's still related), but it's otherwise blissful.
Another citation of my work in _Nature_.
Seems like the community *does* value my work.
@rmounce good fun that one!
Nice little doctoral thesis here from Lance Eaton (University of Massachusetts Boston)

Pleased to say that, as of tomorrow, I will be a full employee of Michigan State University, working as Technical Lead on Knowledge Commons. I've been interim since January and it's nice to pick this up officially.
Yeah! My latest book has been named as a finalist in the annual SHARP Book History Prize. Even if I don't win, that's exciting (for me)!
Yesterday, we tested the resilience of our backup and restore procedure at Knowledge Commons. A great outcome, though we found one critical aspect that we had to resolve. We now know, 100%, that we can recover from a disaster. Because we tried it.
Also, excellent news! Knowledge Commons commits to the Principles of Open Scholarly Infrastructure (POSI).

It was typical of Pope Francis’s sly sense of mischief that there should be a clown at his funeral. The hilarious spectacle of a clueless buffoon with an orange face, yellow hair and a blue suit was a timely reminder of the pontiff’s essential humanity.
Next Wednesday at Knowledge Commons is ⚡⚡DISASTER DAY⚡⚡!
We'll be simulating a total systems failure and resurrecting our sites and data from our backups. I'll write up the results when we're done, but this should give us confidence in our disaster-recovery procedures.
