@evildrganymede UX/UI really. The starter packs, easy and powerful blocklists, and not having to faff about with instances is in combination a bit of a gamebreaker combo. It's all about finding your friends at the new place and avoiding the bad folks and they figured it out well.

@gicycle Besides, if you went 'have one account in both' now, you'll likely just get back 'Okay, I'll just main the bigger site and bridge to the smaller site'. And Bluesky is just... bigger.

@gicycle Eh, I have this account bridged. The bridge identifier kills any engagement because people can see you're not actually there and it'd be like responding to a bot. If you want to be in both places, you have to *actually* be in both places, fully.

@MarcusAnthonyCyganiak If it does it's not just Masto. Threads is getting it too. People really, REALLY didn't want to have to do five different socials and a lot were just holding until they knew which one was The Winner. They know Bluesky is The Winner now so off they go.

@AdmiralMemo It feels to me like the very presence of a bridge identifier in an address is a neon 'this is basically a bot' sign to people and if you want engagement you have to ACTUALLY be in the place fully.

FYI, I am still here, but Bluesky does seem to have gripped more of my recent attention.

I do still believe both is better than either one individually. I tried a bridge, bridge doesn't give me the back and forth I would seek out of it. Bridging looks to have gotten a rep of nonengagement, 'I'm not actually here but you should look at me anyway don't bother replying'.

@PharaohBender27 My brother's still on Facebook, we haven't shared a social in years.... I know he wouldn't do well on Mastodon but I e-mailed him seeing if he'll at least consider Bluesky, which, hey, it's the winner.

@Fruan @sugarsh0t also it sounds like Bluesky has actual mods around when you report accounts and some strong, strong block functions.

The block function's a bit touch and go here because of all the various instances and different rulesets. That is not how it goes there. When you block someone they are gone and you are gone from theirs, as if neither of you are on the same plane of existence anymore.

@Fruan @sugarsh0t I think it's people gave Mastodon a shot, left bewildered, came back six years later, were just as bewildered and found it too tough to settle in... and later on after Brazil banned Twitter, basically the whole country picked Bluesky as the replacement and everyone else said 'welp guess that's the winner then' and Bluesky has caught every exodus since.

@sugarsh0t I'm just deciding to double up and go with both.

Bluesky is definitely now getting some of the structural accounts everyone's been waiting for, I'm seeing all the big baseball writers moving.
