@kolombiken That would be super useful and stop random searches for recent controversies 🤣
Self-employed (web-) developer based in Graz (Austria) with a love for minimalist UIs.
- I mostly work with Typescript, React, and Vite.
- I'm learning Vue and Rust at the moment.
- I love all things keyboards, and am way too excited about coffee and VIM.
Will toot in English or German.

Habe für Golem aufgeschrieben, warum Unternehmen einen Ausstieg aus der Nutzung von US-basierter Infrastruktur prüfen sollten:
Really impressed by the easy onboarding process of Nebius and their AI cloud offerings. With the uncertain future of GDPR and regulatory AI laws in Europe, it's peace of mind to have found a solid European alternative to the big US providers.
@kagihq Love this feature. Would be curious to know how the detection works and if it's always reliable.
"Writing is the process by which you realize that you do not understand what you are talking about."
(The same applies to teaching, which is one of the reasons why I enjoy it so much.)
Just spent an entire afternoon / evening evaluating the current feature set of Penpot vs. Figma.
Unfortunately, I came to the conclusion that it still doesn't seem appropriate to move large projects over to Penpot, the performance is still way subpar to Figma.
@davidgerard That's just sad - I just switched back to Firefox after experiencing too many crashes on Orion.
I've just realised that I've been holding back my ability to innovate by constantly *not* implementing things if there's something similar already on the market.
15 years ago, I didn't care about that. And that was a time where I rapidly evolved as a developer.
Just do the thing.
I never had any issues with light text on dark background, but I do find it interesting that I have an easier time reading small font sizes when it's dark text on light background.
Anyone else feel the same, or is that a me thing?

@molly0xfff Spot on analysis of the current state. I fear that this alternative version of the web can (and partially does) still exist, but only inside a niche bubble.
Surprisingly, more and more young people seem to be realizing that they're sitting in a dystopian walled garden - so maybe there is still hope.
@publicvoit Apparently so! It's infuriating and confusing as hell! 😂
on the perils of being named after a month
@ismh It's actually so sad to see that so many good hardware products are continuously held back or rendered barely usable because the software to configure them is an annoying pile of dung.
MacOS randomly asking you for your password to install a software update in the middle of you actively typing something just feels so wrong to me.
Is it so hard to let me install updates on my own terms, or at least give me a heads-up before asking for my password?

And at that point, Vimming (?) becomes its own olympic discipline 😂
@sarajw I just stumbled on your post and I just wanted to say - what a cool little gem of a site! 💎
I love the vibe and flair, it reminds me so much of the web before homogenization took over.
@publicvoit I have heard about it before and tried it out right now - performance might even be a little better on my machine.
The RAG features also work quite seamlessly out of the box, which is nice (and in my current setup, I'm having to use a special Obsidian plugin to get RAG for my notes, which is definitely less convenient).
I don't really like its GUI, but that's a minor gripe.
Overall, I think I still slightly prefer Ollama's UX over GPT4All or oobabooga's LLM interface.
The release of Llama3 convinced me to try running a local LLM. I was pleasantly surprised about the performance and how easy it was to set up, so I wrote a blog post about the process:

Hab heute nicht schlecht gestaunt - wollte mich telefonisch beim Cineplexx Weiz über ein Detail im aktuellen Filmprogramm informieren - aber außer einem automatisiertem Band geht dort wohl niemand mehr ans Telefon.
Dann eben nicht ... Hauptsache immer wird den Streaming-Anbietern die Schuld für den Verdienstentgang gegeben, aber das Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis und die Atmosphäre in den Kinos war auch wirklich mal besser.
Rant over.
