I love weird. Comic-books, cinema, books, music, programming.

It's fun how I jump from stuff to another. I was complaining about the non-classy Frank Miller's Selina in Year One, so I went to cherrypick old Nocturna's character arc. Enter Batman (v. I) #363, aaaand... She's meant to be "classy" all right, but the kitschy, corny "poetry" and "philosophy" sported by the character is simply...
"The nights are wondrous, Mr. Wayne... They are the cloak which adorns mystery with its elegance".
Judge yourself.

@haljor @setsly I back up Cole's Plastic Man and the Silver Age Doom Patrol. I have a soft spot for the Legion of SH but realistically, in the Silver Age they were, um, let's say very "non-mature-readers".
In the comic-book format, for me the best ones pre-seventies are probably those that came from EC, BTW. ;)
Guten Morgen allerseits 👋 😀
Zum Start ins Wochenende ein schöner Satz des großen amerikanischen SF-Autors Philip K. Dick über uns und die Mächtigen.
“This is a mournful discovery:
1)Those who agree with you are insane
2)Those who do not agree with you are in power.”
Philip K. Dick - VALIS (1981)
@MaxRPower Check, if you haven't, his Moon Knight, Avengers and Black Cat. Really good IMHO. ♥️
There's only one thing about Year One I disliked and still don't love: Selina. I've always seen her as a vamp, a classic, and classy, femme fatale, and... That's just not there. But in truth that's just me, and to be fair the character as it is works in the narrative Miller presented. He did a much better work, I believe, with Daredevil's Elektra, so I'll be happy with that.

Last night I read once again the classic Batman: Year One (it's been a lot of years since the last time, yeah). I was ready for a bit of a let down (nostalgia hasn't that much grip on me), but... I loved it more than the first time. I believe I'm more ready now to appreciate Mazucchelli's minimalistic but precise art, and the noir, realistic tones in Miller's script. I'll be bold and say that, for me, this is the best work he's ever done.

@KerryMitchell Flies on a Pegasus, chops her own arm, got blind and deaf herself, does magicks covered in blood, elegantly shuts military bossy mouths... What's not to absolutely love? ♥️
Absolute Wonder Woman is badass. No invisible plane in this one, she travels on a dead Pegasus. The Absolute series have probably been DC’s most successful recent reimagining of their characters. #comicbooks #wonderwoman
@allflooby Really great. ♥️
@madcollector For me that was clear in some sequences of Diana's childhood, and later, in conversations with Circe and Hecate. It's just, I believe, not nurture but nature. Diana is what she is, not what her circumstances are. Even if she is raised in Hell.
I'm really enjoying Absolute Wonder Woman. It takes a lot from the basic mythos and mixes the elements differently, but the core of what makes Diana such a symbol persists. This issue features Mattia De Iulis art, which is really a departure from the titular artist Hayden Sherman style, but also great.

@tww The Golden Age, for historical reasons mainly. The plain clothes seventies' era, same mostly. Phil Jimenez, Greg Rucka, Gail Simone , Brian Azarello's runs are all pretty interesting.
I had a blast at @comixexperience, another great wheelchair accessible comic shop in San Francisco! I snagged Lunar Boy by @jesncin & some excellent X-Men stickers by @designnurd & @maloneydoodles. A+ vibes, I could have hung out in that store all day 💗🥰 #comicbooks #comics #SanFrancisco
@madcollector Really great, as he ever was. 🙂
No reason, I just stumbled upon art by Bernie Wrightson
@madcollector Reason more than good enough. ♥️
I'm currently reading Michel Fiffe's Copra and yeah, it's a blast. Part Ostrander and Yale's Suicide Squad fanfiction (did he ever got sued?), part Morrison's Doom Patrol, part indie action deconstruction, it's grazed with an amazing, bold and experimental art and a really captivating story, not always straight to follow, but all pieces fall into place with time. So far I've finished the first arc, corresponding with the first year of the series, and not a dull moment. Very recommended. #comics
@madcollector @boogheta True that. Morrison's JLA came before though, and I'd say that was the comic that started that particular trend. In any case, Morrison, Ellis and Millar were quite influential in the latest years of the 20th Century and first of the 21th for sure.
