I’m sick of reading Dmitry Medvedev spew hatred and talk about killing people. So here’s that video of him and Garik Martirosyan dancing like idiots to “American Boy.” Let’s remember him like this.

It’s still unclear how the Kremlin will use the concert hall attack against Ukraine. My immediate fear was outright blame on Kyiv, followed by full mobilization, but that hasn’t yet materialized.

Currently, what’s most worrying about the official response is openly torturing the suspects. (They videotaped this, and one of the suspects was even brought into court with a torn plastic drawstring bag still around his neck.) The message this sends, to say nothing of the reality captured on video, is terrifying.

FWIW, speaking as the quintessential armchair expert, it's currently my impression that Russia apprehended the men likely responsible for Friday's terrorist attack and that speculation about either a Kremlin false flag or some Ukrainian scheme is equally unfounded.

That said, (1) the Kremlin will, as it's done before, exploit this attack cynically and dishonestly, (2) the Putin regime has earned its record as untrustworthy and cold-blooded, and (3) torture is always monstrous.

The Russian Supreme Court has ruled that an "International Societal LGBT-Movement" is "extremist". Because no such legal subject exists, it may be that everyone saying something positive about LGBT will be accused of "extremism" an such can be prosecuted.

A good text about the consequences of restricting more and more the travel of Russians to the EU. Though the motives are understandable, it's mainly contra-productive. It punishes the opposition + helps Putin's propaganda of a West, in principle hostile towards Russians

Trial against Memorial's Oleg Orlov in Moscow continues todays. The verdict is expected today and he might well get a prison sentence. Oleg said, he didn't leave Russia, because his voice is heard much louder from within the country. May be he's unreasonable, but clearly brave.
