Stopft sich die Backen voll mit webdev-foo. Lernt React und nimmt dabei sehr viele Umwege.
Freue mich andere Leute (und Hamster) kennen zu lernen, die auch struggeln und lernen.

Stuffing my cheeks with all the webdevelopment things while learning React and taking every detour possible.
I‘m always happy to get to know other folks (and hamsters) who are also learning and struggling forwards.

@milofultz I saw your chair, it's sooo neat! Nothing more than needed and not less. :blahaj:
(Also props for linking to codeberg instead of github.)

@mia Do you know industrial goths? Their main color, besides the usual ones. Very toxic. The visual equivalent of radio activity. (#00FF00)

Hahaha,

I love crafting sessions at #SoCraTes.

Last year, someone shared the mindblowing knowledge of how to knit 2 (mirrored) socks at the same time. Which seems to be incredible on its own, but its also perfect to use up old yarn as both socks will use the same amount automatically!

Now the person re-surfaced, so maybe even more people will learn how to do this. :rainbow_heart_eyes:

(I do not knit anymore, so I didn't learn the magic and cannot tell others how to do it.)

Two striped socks (black and neon green) being knit simultaneously. The stripes are "mirrored", so the stripe being green on one sock is green while it's black on the other.

@kunegis Huh, warum ist die Antwort jetzt nicht auf Lemmy gelandet? Weird.

2025-05-08

@MaWalla So, Karte ist korrigiert.

@kunegis Pixel-Knappheit.

@MaWalla Oooooh!!! Das wusste ich nicht! Herrje, inakkurates Meme is inakkurat.

Woaah! It worked!
I just posted to #Lemmy, from my mastodon account.

All I had to do:
- Mention @ communityName@server.tld (you can copy that from their URL or search them here on mastodon)
- Pick my title and use it as first line in the toot
- Toot ^^

Even the image is now visible on Lemmy, same for the alt text. NICE.

"The future is now" vibes.

@berlin Einmalige Gelegenheiten muss man nutzen

This is something that also makes me think about group processes/positive behaviour shaping. Like: How many new people can you add to a group before the positive atmosphere, that has been carefully created, gets lost?

Tough to balance the scales of "we need new people for new perspectives, to challenge the status quo" VS "but this should not become a random assortment of people, because then the 'that is the way we do it here' effect is gone".

I'm so used to the Silent Applause from #SoCraTes events*, that the loud applause in other settings/events just feels rude.
Which is s good indicator on how much one learns and "embodies" from other groups of people. The SoCraTes immersion is a good one. Many considerations that carry over from one event to the next, to form a SoCraTes spirit.

The good thing about completely missing, that one of your fav authors published a new book (in 2023!!!): Now I have a new book to read :)

Also my amazing colleague did actually read my very detailed "self intro" in our teams' wiki and he likes the same authors and my current fav card game. Aaaah!! :blob_rainbowheart:

I will do my best to remember my aspiration for the fediverse more often: To mostly share positive things here.

When I came over from Twitter in ~2015, I did not know many users here. And _the absence_ of the usual chorus of people trying to change the world/voice their helplessness/increase their market value/find community by complaining... that was really striking.

I do believe that the best way for change is to celebrate and share the good parts. I need to keep this in mind again.

By the way: Good news regarding #accessibility once in a while: A colleague improved/fixed the extensive flyout-mega-menu yesterday and he went above and beyond :)
It seems to not only fulfil accessibility requirements, as far as I can tell, but feels really smooth and fun to use with a keyboard.
It's not often that I navigate a nested menu by keyboard and think "wow, that is really useable, I'm enjoying this".

I do love a team where several people care about accessible products. :yayblob:

With them (and so many others) not caring about Extended Audio Descriptions at all, I tend to taking this as a hint and striving for the YAGNI path: Just providing a different audio file (or a video of the same length but with AD). If the need for Extended AD ever arises, we can still add support for that in one way or another.

2025-04-30

Update:
Yesterday I received some helpful food for thought from @kc 💜 (chaos.social/@kc/1144233387249) regarding how to go about Audio Description that is longer than the run time of the original video and how to go about it.

Today I also spoke with one accessibility practitioner from a different team. He did not know much about videos (his client does not use them) but showed me the video player (plugin) from Aktion Mensch: aktion-mensch.de/inklusion/bar

2025-04-29

@kc > What do you think?
Or did I misunderstand you?

Like, SMIL sounds very interesting but also as if it would bring the same issues with public display of the video as swapping the standard video for a longer version with AD. Hmm.

2025-04-29

@kc Thanks for your reply, the "different length of video can be a hindrance" argument makes sense!

"Text alternative" often sounds like an easy way out of providing AD by just offering a link to a text transcript with additional descriptions.

In a video player for a client I would assume it's best to offer such a text-file-link-instead-of-Audio-Description as a last resort only. And to default to swapping audio tracks or using this SMIL approach as default where possible. >
