In our new Internet Policy Review article, we argue that the #AIA has significant potential to become a global benchmark for governance & regulation in this area of strategic global importance. However, its success hinges on effective enforcement, fruitful intra-European and international cooperation, and the EU's ability to adapt to the rapidly evolving AI landscape.

Many colleagues have asked us to work on a less conceptual and more admin-friendly approach to analysing the data autonomy of a cloud-based service. Therefore, starting in autumn 2023, we started to work on the design of the Data Autonomy Index (DAIX), which we are now happy to share with you!

We compare the 🇺🇸 with the 🇪🇺 culture around collective enforcement and class actions, taking into account the updated EU legal framework.

@lilianedwards the more interesting question is probably how many subscriptions Meta thinks it will sell & how that compares to reality.
@lilianedwards the point was more that the ‘promise’ that FB/Meta services will always be ‘free’ is now no longer the case.
But it’s most likely a gamble to see how many ppl will use the services through paid subscriptions, and then either reduce the problems around ads, or be able to tell EU policymakers that they don’t know what ‘their’ people want. We will see.
