@finny I alway fly out of PAE if I can! I rarely can, but I super enjoy it when I do. You can park just 100ft from the front door!

@finny Oh, PAE? It's a lovely airport. Try it if you get a chance. It's nothing like you've seen before. There's a fireplace in the waiting area!

I hope Pride in SF is *epic* this year!

Latest bird main body build! Now I have standoffs for the controller board to mount to, and a big hole with a rubber grommet to allow wires to pass through safely while the bird is in motion!

@ariadne I’m not gonna stop you!

@Doridian It was kinda cool that we got a see a few seconds of it melting before the cameras burned up

"Passivating a rocket" is a term I learned today.

I went to go swap out a light switch (replaced a ZWave one with a Zigbee one), only to realize that due to the quirks of my house, allllll of my network gear was on the same circuit.

I don't have a lot of runtime on my UPSes, so I decided to power down _everything_ safely. Which I did.

I got the switch swapped out, and then had to do the fun of bringing _everything_ back up.

How to turn a 15 minute job into a one hour job!

This is hopefully the final version of the main metal frame for my birds. All of the small dots are tapped screw holes, almost all of them M4x0.7.

I've got many many hours of time invested into this! Here's hoping it's the last version.

It's got a bunch of safety features older generations did not have. I can turn off the motors one and a time in software, there's full ESD protection on the USB port (both data and power lines), I've got polarity protection on the motor power

I blew up a board once because I accidentally had it brush some metal and shorted out the motor rails

With this design that can't really happen. The pins on top are ground. If it were to brush against something it'd just ground itself out

I intend to leave unused headers powered off. Hopefully this is way safer!

The most expensive boards I've ever made are off to the fab! I've never done top and bottom PCBA before.

I was about to book a quick two day trip to go see the Tiki Room at Disneyland, but I remembered that it's currently closed! Never mind. :)

Humm. The WWDC '25 logo is Siri colored, but mostly clear. So I guess it'll be another WWDC about stuff that doesn't exist.

@kiracollie I'm not worried about it. We're software professionals. At the end of the day, it's our name that's gonna show up in "git blame" and I won't accept "I don't know what that code does, ChatGPT wrote it" as an answer.

I'm still chugging away on these boards. They're so tiny that space is at a premium. I haven't even started to route it yet because I'm still placing parts!

You know how when you go to SSH into a host that’s had its keys rotated it said "Someone may be doing something nasty?" At Linden Lab I never had to guess. There was definitely something nasty going on on that host.

Well this is a pain in the butt, but I'm finally getting to where I think I have a PCB that'll work on the new metal frame of my birds. That's an RP2350B in the middle. The extra GPIOs let me reduce the chip count by two!

@ntoskrnl Sadly this is just on my Wifi! There's no cell signal at all at my house. >.>

What do you mean this isn't a squirrel feeder?
