Curious what happened behind the scene of AWS Community Day DACH? How did we craft the talks and content so you could enjoy such a high quality event?

Congratulations Markus for organizing the AWS UserGroup Munich for 10 years!! According to meetup.com I joined the first time in 2016 (actually as speaker), but I think I sneaked in already earlier.

To the Munich folks: See you later!

Starting the week with two ugly bugs:
1) Cloudformation allows to update the same TaskDefinition Family from multiple stacks 🤯
2) EcsRunTask task in StepFunctions CDK references task definition only by family, w/out revision 🤦‍♂️

We made it! We selected 28 awesome talks out of 240+ submissions. Many hours were invested and I will write a blog post about our process soon.

Congratulations to all speakers we picked. And to the ones we could not pick: Please don't be mad. There were so many interesting topics but unfortunately we have only 28 spots.

Watch aws-community-day.de/ as our speakers will soon show up there

Could not agree more.

Photo of t-shirt with the text "I survived another meething that should have been an email" with 'meeting' and 'an email' substituted for 'video' and 'a blogpost', so the text becomes "I survived another video that should have been a blogpost".

One more and we will already have as many submissions as last year's total. This is crazy and I'm looking already forward to it (although it will be hard to pick). And yes, the Call for Papers is still open until Sunday June 2nd! #AwsCommunity

What options do I have if I want to throttle parallel executions of a StepFunction? The SF is triggered by a queue and spikes should be throttled to not run into some other AWS rate limits. #AWS

@s0enke It’s “funny” as you can use the old slides again and again. It also means that we as industry don’t learn from the past…

@andreas I am!

2024-05-07

@arichtman do you have “root” groups for teams and repositories?

2024-05-07

Since @gitlab has no notion of teams how do others setup their groups? How do you organize teams and repositories? #gitlab #question

> The point of a commit message is to capture intent, not to merely summarize the content of the commit.

> AI cannot infer intent. It can only describe what changed, not why it changed. What would you rather read: "added a 200ms delay before a drag end event" or "fixed bug: drag and drop a table row would sometimes cause table to have wrong width"?

Excited to share my new blog post: "Hey CDK, what should I know before refactoring CDK applications?" If you're diving into CDK without a deep understanding of CloudFormation, this one's for you! Gain insights on navigating stateful resources, managing replacements, and writing effective tests. Check it out: garbe.io/blog/2024/04/30/hey-c

Does anyone know if it's possible to get events from @VW ID.4 when leaving or arriving home? Would like to integrate it in my home automation. #volkswagen #loxone #mqtt

AWS ECR PullThrough Cache is a lifesaver, helping avoid DockerHub limits, boost resilience, and save costs. But setting it up with CDK or CloudFormation has pitfalls, and cross-account access has a nasty bug requiring wildcard access.

Updated AWS::CloudWatch::Alarm

The Tags property was added so that you can use AWS CloudFormation to apply tags to metric alarms.

This article is fucking amazing. It lays out _exactly_ how to do database changes, codebase changes, and feature flag deployment strategies step by step with code examples in order to practice continuous deployment without downtime or breaking anything.

I've wanted to write this article for years and never got around to it. Now I don't have to!

(Looks like they have a book on continuous deployment coming out soon. I might have to get this for my teams 👀 )

@andreas what about using a pull through cache in ECR (for this case)? (Will publish a blog post next week about it)

And, the scans can be used to track resources that have not been created by CloudFormation within an account. I can imagine a StepFunction that triggers a scan, checks the resources against a whitelist and triggers an alarm. Please SF team, add the new CFN API #awswishlist
