Just spent a day debugging an OpenGL performance issue in phyphox to eventually find that it is caused by my Pixel 6 overheating atypically in any GPU-heavy application (see benchmark).

Anyone ever experienced something like this? Not sure if I should try some "exploratory surgery" or if this is the right moment to upgrade...

This is a screenshot from a benchmark app, showing a total score of 3029 for my Pixel 6. It also shows a histogram of how many other Pixel 6 devices have achieved which scores, most of which score in the range of 5000 to 7000. It also shows that my score is better than only 2% of the recorded Pixel 6 scores.

The acceleration spectrum of a rammer in use as measured by a smartphone placed on a nearby cable junction box (“KVz” in Germany). The hardware specs (engine rpm) match the highlighted peak, however, the harmonics are more dominant here.

Anything rotating with a few thousand revolutions per minute will create vibrations at the same frequency. Your phone's accelerometer can pick it up and phyphox can calculate the frequency spectrum, giving you the rotational frequency.
