@mschabhuettl Die Uhr fängt bei uns am 01.01.2000 zu ticken an (J2000-Zeit), entsprechend sollten wir hoffentlich keine Probleme bekommen :P Einige Sachen wie das Magnetfeldmodell was an Bord ist haben aber auch durchaus Ablaufdaten, die mittlerweile durch sind und mal bei Gelegenheit im Softwareupdate eigentlich ersetzt werden müssten, aber nichts kritisches.

@lambda Yeah it's a very valid thought, and many spacecraft do have that. Ultimately I think the design space is a sort of tradeoff between having powerful commands to fix your spacecraft and trying to avoid having commands that can hurt your spacecraft. Multiple space missions (see e.g. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=htMkASxX-ro&t=64s) have been lost due to bad memory pokes AFAIK...

@whitequark My favorite part with operator precedence surrounding bitshifts in Python is that if you accidentally get it wrong on a leftshift and end up shifting something left by a huge number, you will be presented with a MemoryError and are left to ponder how you just managed to do that, on a seemingly innocuous line doing simple arithmetic no less
