'Spotify pays artists $0.003—$0.005 per stream on average.

That's like $4 per 1000 streams.

While their execs make six-to-seven-figure incomes averaging in the mid $200Ks/year and $115/hr.

To actually support your favourite artists, buy their music from their website or at a record store and you will be making a huge difference.'

I really enjoy following Mastodon people who enjoy things into which I've never really sunk my teeth.

To see their sense of freedom here is liberating and liberates me. Reading about hardship and struggles is also as it should be; we all have hard times. We all struggle.

There are no algorithms to steer me away from what enables humans to have open conversations.

Seeing other cultures than the ones I (somewhat) know is wondrous and beautiful.

I sound like a cult member. Well...

Thank you.

writing.exchange is for all kinds of writers.

hachyderm.io is for tech people.

I would love to see more of a blend.

George Seaton, old-school screenwriter, could basically be talking about any kind of here, I guess.

Quote from book by GEORGE SEATON: When I was an innocent beginning screenwriter, I was working with a bunch of writers, sitting around in a motel, although they didn’t call them motels in those days. It was a little bungalow court. My room cost $5 a week. But a big screenwriting problem came up, and in my innocence I said it wasn’t that big a problem and I’d think about it. So I did and came up with two solutions and brought them to the team. When I told the first one, Herman Mankiewicz, God bless him, said, “That’s it!” Everybody agreed, so they took it to Selznick. (By the way, it was a forgotten film called Meet the Baron. The picture was miserable.) Selznick called me in to talk to me, and he said, “Young man, do you know the reason you got the solution?” I said, “No, sir.” He said, “Because you didn’t know how difficult it was.” I thought that was a pretty silly statement at the time, but over the years I’ve learned he was absolutely right. You can get yourself so involved with the don’ts of writing a screenplay . . . until somebody comes along with a very simple solution. Of course, the picture was horrible, but Mr. Selznick was right.

Keith Levene is dead. One of my favourite guitar players of all time. I used to DJ Public Image Ltd's 'Albatross' and his guitar is astounding.

I discovered this tv series at age twelve and it blew my mind.

‘We took the sitcom and blew it apart’: how The Young Ones changed comedy for ever
theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/2

'With flying eclairs, falling beds and exploding buses, the anarchic antics of Rick, Vyvyan, Neil and Mike shoved alternative comedy into the mainstream. Forty years on, we ask the show’s creators how they pulled it off.'

@adamgreenfield same, although in my case it has nothing to do with age and more to do with empathy, respecting others more, and absolutely hating capitalism and xenophobia. :BlobhajHeart:
