Tim

Former podcaster of Radio Clash (still sort of), owner of Hard Up Hiker YT channel, mashup artist, ne'er do well, seemingly the Monarch of Shadowbans and captain of obscurity!

It's also what this mashup was about - remix.audio/track/27547/tbc-ak

That was a year in - the line about the Internet was cos I frankly was I scared to say anything cos he'd gone off before about a random comment on Twitter - and I posted many thousands of tweets (40,000 last time Iooked, probably more now) so how I knew he was stalking me on social media.

One does not 'randomly see' the one tweet I posted where I mentioned him by name!

So it was very lonely to keep quiet about it.

...at this point you are supposed to say some blather about missed opportunities or grief.

I actually don't miss him at all, when I left his orbit and realised how much fucking gaslighting and stellar amount of manipulation was happening.

I don't dream of John much but I do dream of him sometmes, like recently.

Good. That means I'm forgetting him.

Hold Music #6

For a certain someone - or a few of them, but that one has been nearly 6 years.

At least he can't stalk me on FB anymore (true story, if someone tells you they have a secret account to spy on old school friends don't assume they're not using it on you, too)

---

I was sticking up for my friend
When there's nothing much to defend
It's a lost fight
It's a lost fight
Cause when I talk to you on the phone
Well it's just like being alone
It's not half right

My favourite mashup of all time. Not many mashups would I say 'play this at my funeral' - not even my own - but this is one.

Ritournelle has extra resonance cos of the original video, and makes me think of John.

But Marvin's message is sadly timeless.

I finally lagged the boiler with that foil bubble wrap stuff cos the old foam was coming off. Scissors, tape, it was like some kid's TV show creating a Dalek or something.

Yes my life is rock and roll! Woo! /s

This is the fun of being an adult home owner.... 😉

@pdsmix I don't hear to myself - maybe in the verses, a little. But it's in a different key and the higher Frosty notes don't match. Like 'Frosty the snowMAN' note clashes.

@markmccaughrean I was a kid, away from school - snow day? And at a friends house and we both saw it live or shortly after on the news.

Sadly many kids in the US saw it live cos of Christa...horrifying.

I See You Look
I See You Staring
Not Pretty For You
I'm Not Pretty For You

Cos There's Always
Someone For Everyone
Not Pretty For You
I'm Not Pretty For You

(Unused verse:

I'm Not Young
Some Say I'm Ugly
Not Pretty For You
I'm Not Pretty For You).

New/not new/album of my music experimental fragments since about 2014. Seems Soundcloud has nixed my old account, so posted with some unreleased stuff...

A bit random. Even a cover, which I am surprised I put on there - I don't post my singing usually. I hate my voice but there's a few bits and songs? I wrote which I nixed on previous original collections....

@cryptica I am saying it's hard to do on long posts and could be made easier - how is that saying I somehow am some edgelord who wants to upset people?

That's one hell of a fucking stretch. You are projecting.

We are done here when you went for the ad-homs. Muted. And if you respond to this more you will be blocked.

@cryptica where did I say that?

Quote me,

I did not, but I talked about why I have LEGITIMATE issues about CW veils here. Go read my post about it - how life drawings had to be behind a veil and how for an artist that's all kinds of problematic - saying nudity is sexual and NSFW.

I have never had a problem with tagging or using CW's - just how Mastodon does it.

@cryptica then don't complain when people forget to comply? It's human to forget.

And dunno where this anger comes from?

You were saying that people have issues with people forgetting the tags, and I've seen non-CW ones, so I was genuinely saying that maybe there's a better way to do this?

Rather than getting angry at folks who don't know or forgot? That's always going to REALLY help things! /s Like that response. Going nuclear over system issues and blaming the user helps no-one.

If you want to go off, do so I guess....

But you obviously don't read my posts otherwise you'd know I went back and CW'd all the political ones.

So how does that makes me an inconsiderate dick?

@cryptica when I've used it on my Wordpress posts it usually looks for keywords and adds a tag accordingly. AI might be better but I suspect any mention of scanning posts with AI would cause a mutiny...

So yes, it's not 100% but most of the obvious ones would be Trump, ICE etc and then at least those posts would be tagged.

Relying on people to tag well is like relying on them to organise their books by title or clean their house every day. It's not going to happen. Not 100% anyway.

@cryptica but people forget to CW too? I've seen that on other instances when people talk about politics.

So not tagging, not CWing - same issue when people are responding quickly. Which why maybe autotagging or suggesting automatically would be better.

A technical automatic solution would not be perfect, but better than relying on shaming people to remember. Which is fallible.

@cryptica no I mean suggesting the tags based on content.

So if you talk about Trump, a politics or USpol tag appears at the bottom you can select. So you can just click on it to add it.

Other sites do stuff like that. Maybe there are security reasons for not doing it here, but I was surprised that I had to type tags, that's very 2010s!

@cryptica I mean autosuggesting the tags on your content - or indeed adding the tags automatically after.

Some might kvetch at that, so maybe you could approve them somehow or have a list of ones you'd be happy to have.

There must be something like that on the desktop as when you type a tag it pops up with the common options? Like if you type # pol it pops up pol politics police etc.

Atm it's a bit of a faff to remember them and type them - sometimes I run out of space....so anything that makes it easier might mean more people do it?

@cryptica I have been using the politics tag for that reason, I didn't know there was a specific USpol and UKpol ones.

It does feel a bit odd that if people aren't using the tags properly, or the veil properly, then maybe another solution is better? Dunno what that is, but this feels like an issue that should be fixable, and what computers are for - like some autotagging?

I personally would be for tags to not be part of the post - editing the old ones to add a content veil was fun as it's also part of the content and my word count was too long -
but autogenerated, or autogenerated for some controversial topics, or at very least standardised and able to be edited after?

The less friction to do the right thing, people will mostly do the right thing. Atm it's made harder, so not everyone does it.

TL;DR - maybe the system is wrong? It's classic in tech to blame the user but this feels like something the system is amplifying by not having an easy method of autotag or flagging it.

P.S. Didn't CW this, as I think it's more about the Beeb than politics....but that's the problem with the CW veil for politics, politics is everywhere, and affects everything.

But yes - I recommend everyone in the UK to feedback on the consultation -despite my criticisms I think the BBC is worth defending, but we need to press for it not to become more of a governmental mouthpiece, defend diverse programming and voices, and stop being so TERF-y.

And of course make the point it should be more open to groups that don't fall in a very specific class niche or background, which they do now, even in their DEI stuff.

Neurodivergence? Non-binary? Older? Queer? Not factors that will help you get a job at the Beeb. Nepotism will though!

And also like all major broadcasters they scoffed at YouTube - and are paying the rewards of that.

Changing people's home page isn't the way...engaging with existing YT creators and hiring them, is. Often many of us were shunned by major broadcasters. 4/N

gov.uk/government/consultation

Also pushing for more investment outside London - which again, as someone who was in the industry and have friends there - is a bullshit PR move.

The bigwigs - directors, producers, presenters, editors actually stay in London. The grunts get told their jobs are in Manchester or wherever, and they have to move or tough....so the starter jobs where you can work as a runner for free or low pay for 1-2 years - YAY! /not are all in Salford. Working class diverse folks in London are mostly SOL unless you find a production house that stayed - and most followed suit, so no.

That's why the BBC as well as C4 and others have a real middle class issue, and struggle with diversity. What they should be doing is looking to those on YouTube and poaching people from there, not insisting on the Old Boys Network and going to film school then making coffee for 2 years. The insistence on the latter is why they lost new generations to that platform and TikTok.

And the government want more editorial control - NOPE. 3/N

The government want to control what the BBC says and does, and then force us to consume it, CanCon style.

There are some other issues as well - they claim to want to support diversity but my experience (editor, motion graphics artist, yes I have worked for the Beeb but as a freelancer and only in BBC Worldwide, Production is closed to working class people unless very specific narrow niches) it's just wallpaper - the middle/upper class white cishet folks still pull the strings.

Oh and they are ageist as well. 2/N
