I recall working through Dignity of Difference and Universalizing Particularity for a seminar and came away feeling like the arguments weren't very good. He writes for a lay, often, secular audience and I felt he couldn't give a compelling defense of particularity.

People keep calling this person a towering intellectual, and keep asking what are his intellectual contributions to our discourse? With Dara Horn I can list a handful of things. With Sacks I come up short
