What were some of your favorite talks at #39c3, and what did you like about them?

I thought https://media.ccc.de/v/39c3-51-ways-to-spell-the-image-giraffe-the-hidden-politics-of-token-languages-in-generative-ai was really insightful and well-made! The authors analyzed the behavior of popular text tokenizers, and report some fun discoveries!

(Also, does someone know what the talk with the ~170 slides mentioned in the Infrastructure Review was?)

On the way to #39c3 I was thinking I struggled with a good description for the unnitiated. But after this one I might have to go for: a hacker event with 15.000 people where the flinta-flirt session outgrew the communist meetup.

That should provide a fairly fitting picture no?

A dear friend brought me some souvenirs from #39C3 🤗

Heute habe ich - auch wenn kein Sonntag ist - mein Microsoft 365 Abo der Familie gekündigt und werde auf OnlyOffice setzen. #DIDit #39C3 wirkt.

Hey, hardware newbie here. I brought a light up cat ear kit home and soldered it, however, while flashing the controller I noticed that only about 2/3 of the LED strip lights up. Do I somewhere have to change the number of segments in the WLED interface or is a faulty strip likely? Help? #c3cat #39c3

At #39c3 I used

✅ Toilet for Women only
✅ Toilet for Men only
✅ Toilet for trans/nonbinary/intersex only
✅ Toilet for all genders

and nobody noticed or cared 🤷

(for those who did not attend, the vast majority of the toilets were "for all genders")

@nelson I am blind. Seeing people who think I'm not worth the effort fill my timeline with AltBot generated AI stuff that isn't even accurate in lots of cases.

Human alt text is always better, because it doesn´t focus on ocular seeing. Seeing people think, and AltBot was designed around that notion, that blind people must compensate for missing "eye-seeing", but that's not the case. I am interested in the meaning of an image to you, its maker or publisher.

Again, human alt text is better, also because it strengthens reciprocity between seeing and blind people. AltBot doesn't but it makes seeing people believe they have done their bit for accessibility. In actuality, the reverse is often true.

Nobody.

Trust me.

Those people might have a different focus than you, because they're focusing on body hacking, or art, or activism. And the community needs them, too.

We need diversity. And that doesn't just mean woman coders. Or Black coders. It also means having a completely different background, and different way of going through life.

If you're only interested in tech there are other conferences for that, too.
