Yet, this is not the most remote place in Vanuatu: just nearby is the island of Efate, where the capital city, Port Vila, is located. Cruising 400 nm along the Y-shaped archipelago enables stopovers in much more secluded locations, from volcanic Tanna in the S to the Banks islands in the N.

It's a land of thick forests, waterfalls, white beaches and coral reefs, where the Ni-Van lead a traditional lifestyle. They number about 300 thousand, are spread over 65 inhabited islands, and speak no less than 135 different languages!
