@hschne It's super useful for wikis and project docs too, I used for a tech documentation I was writing a few months ago and it was great :)

@Schneems Fair, I think I'd go with Sinatra then. Nothing against hanami, but I haven't used it yet so I don't know how it would be to use it without an ORM. Sinatra+Haml would be my choice I believe :)

@Schneems If it was an API, Grape, otherwise Sinatra. But is Sequel also off limits? Because even without models it brings the advantage of sanitization

Hey folks!
As part of my new year resolutions, I decided it's time to pass the torch for the @crossposter maintenance to someone else.
This is not about maintaining the service, but the tool itself, the dev side of it.

If you're into #ruby, #RoR and you used the crossposter, reach out: github.com/renatolond/mastodon

Please boost for reach :)

@silke Hey, I understand the critics about bare metal. But what do you mean about the Rails being legacy and there being no TLS?

@jcn If it's the media part, that grows fast, even for small instances, my single user one for tests, that I don't really use daily is at 20GB

Yesterday we had a CodeTogether session with #RubyBelgium and #AppTweak. I talked a bit about solargraph, how to improve the suggestions and gave a little demo of the remote debugging of the debug gem.

I was planning to record the session and put the video online, but due to technical problems (as in: I forgetting to enable the mic) that ship has sailed 😅

In any case, here are the slides and I can answer any questions!

@johnpettigrew It's a bug in 4.0.1, should be fixed when ruby.social go to 4.0.2 :)

We're having a CodeTogether session with RubyBelgium and AppTweak the 17th of November

The subject of the talk is "Digging into solargraph: Autocomplete, linting and debugging with new ruby tools"

If you're around Brussels come and join us!

@solnic interesting, haven't heard of it!
I've been using Rubocop too, I feel the latest changes got speed to an okay level over here. I'll follow the progress on rubyfmt in any case :)

@james I manage two instances myself and it's indeed a non-negligible amount of work, thanks for doing it ❤️
I felt that having some more people on the moderation team (especially in different timezones) helps a lot :)

@darinwilson Hey! I don't think we'll stream, but I'll try to see if we can record and share the video after :)

⚠️ We are planning to release important security fixes for on February 3rd, between 13:00 and 15:00 UTC.

To make sure that most servers can upgrade swiftly, we will release the fixes both as v3.3.2 and v3.4.6 (they will, of course, be also available on the main branch).

To make sure the upgrades on those older versions require the least intervention, with just a process restart, we have just released preparatory releases v3.3.1 and v3.4.5.

Please upgrade!

I've updated a personal project over the holidays (ivglib.com) to the latest rails, and I found that I enjoy very much the "Turbo + Stimulus" / Bulma combo. Very little JS for a page that feels interactive and bulma looks good even though I can't design for shit 😂

@RubyGoddess As far as I know, there's no packed gem for it. Mastodon is a codebase you can try to get into, I think most of the activitypub stuff is in an activitypub namespace, but other than that, it's a bit messy 😓
