I am definitely in Rachel Franklin "Camp".
Lot of great points, 100% agree on the tension between automation and interactivity that those "tool" try to deal with (pick a lane LLM).

I gave an overview at the Geographic Data Science Lab of our new book "Geographic Data Science with Python" where I talked about the motivation (why), the content (what) and the container (how), and did a quick demo:

Perhaps most amusing, I tried (and mostly succeeded!) to demo the book live, from my iPad, streaming on Teams, through JupyterLab _and_ Rstudio. What's better, you can do so too! Details on the blog post.
With summer and all (!) I've been a bit quiet here, but over at the #GLaDpodcast we've been pretty active! Two episodes dropped:

Aaaaaand... we now have a mailbox you can use to tell us everything, from which hot takes you like the most to what you'd like to hear more of in the future. We'd love to hear from you! Send us your thoughts at: thegladpodcast@gmail.com
I've decided to try to use Mastodon more seriously for work, rather than just for fun (great though it is for that too), so have moved to a more work-related instance. Finally given up on the birdsite, which is broken beyond repair. Looking forward to chatting about #socialsciences teaching and research, as well as general stuff (mainly #ukpolitics and #dogsofmastodon). I'm also currently obsessing over #goodomens.

Final report on the National Land Data Programme is out today. You can have a read over the report, and peruse the pilots document, where we at the The Alan Turing Institute Urban Analytics had the pleasure to chip in on spatial modelling for land use: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/finding-common-ground-integrating-data-science-and-innovation-for-better-use-of-land
