@GrapheneOS I get that you are very clever and all, but your conduct in this thread without providing any sources or real information is off-putting. You come across as extremely unsympathetic and arrogant rather than helpful. Tell us why you're so secure, don't just make whiny and seemingly baseless claims about the competition. Positive messaging works better.

You sound exactly like the people warning about open source software.

@zabadoh This is probably the best alternative. I ended up ordering Abaca filters, but they are too small and sharp to really fit well.

Shipping is expensive, but I'll order these filters next time around. Thank you!

That looks ideal, thank you so much! Also found it's available in a local shop. Good stuff. :)

I used to have a Bodum coffee maker with a metal filter, but it never really worked that well for me, and I lived in Italy where paper filters are not that easily available. Now I'm beating myself up over giving it away without testing more alternatives.

I think maybe the best solution is to explore the world of V60 (as much as I love my Chemex). But I'll try double filters for sure before doing anything too dramatic.

It's not a huge expense compared to the coffee, and especially as I'm a bit rough when grinding it (some early 20th century grinder from a flea market) I appreciate that it somehow always seems to produce a decent cup no matter what I put into it.

I'll give stacking V60s a try before buying the next round of Chemex filters. Seems a bit far-fetched but you never know. Thanks for the advice!

Lardera looks decent, too bad it's American.

If I change to V60 filters I should probably change the coffee maker as well.

A few years ago I had a Bodum with a metal filter. I never felt like I could get the coffee completely right with it - perhaps because I'm a bit rough when it comes to grinding. But I never had a proper V60.

I gave away a nice hand made ceramic pour-over set to a friend for her birthday just last week—it was probably motivated by what I would want for myself. Maybe I should re-visit that store. @Kennystillalive

Is there any chance of getting non-American Chemex-style coffee filters?

I'm trying my best to cut myself off from American dependencies, but I'm running out of Chemex filters and I can't seem to find any high quality third party offerings at all.

I want to use it in a (six cup) Chemex, and I'm looking for the same thick paper quality as what is in the official filters. Just not from an American company. Does anybody have any idea?

@expressiverse This is not the point. The point is that by supporting the viewing of quote posts one version before making them, mostly everyone will be able to view them when it's implemented.

If they implemented both capacities - posting and viewing - all at once, a bunch of us would be left seeing broken posts for a long time before our servers are upgraded.

In just makes the transition smoother.

@hanscees I'm a bit late to the party, but I can confirm that Murena cloud is just standard Nextcloud. If there's a Nextcloud app for iPhone it should work perfectly well. :)

I just had a brief moment of wondering what the 404 error page of @404mediaco looks like.

Safe to say, I was not disappointed.

In OJ: Made in America there's this white cop speaking about the LA riots, saying that the trashing of their own communities never made sense to him.

White America is now doing the same thing to the entire fucking country. I wonder if it makes sense to him now.

Changing platforms will always somewhat inconvenient, as long as you have to rebuild your social graph else. This is maybe particularly the case on Mastodon, as you don't have a feed full of endorphin-maximizing content right off the bat.

Making the move to Mastodon does require a minimum amount of effort. I think it's good to be open about that. :)

What is comfortable is of course an individual consideration - personally I never felt comfortable on Twitter or Faceboook.

@OutlierBlue I guess the preference for European alternatives these days runs deep! :)

@MsTerrious Welcome!

Pixelfed - pixelfed.social - is more picture-focused, if you want an instagram-like experience. But you can follow the same people from here, so no worries!

While other social media try to drag you in by feeding you content they think will amuse you, you're not going to see much here unless you follow people and/or hashtags. So look around a bit, and make yourself comfortable! :)

NEW EPISODE 🚨

This week, the great transatlantic break-up. How can we make sense of the seismic shift in Europe's relationship with the US since Trump took power? What does it mean for Ukraine, and Europe's ability to defend itself from Russia?

Here’s a poem called ‘Pet Peeve’.

Pet Peeve

Keeping
a chameleon
for a pet

is something
that I now
regret.

At first,
as far as
I could tell,

he seemed
to blend in
very well,

but he’s
changed a lot
in many ways

I’ve not
seen him now
for fourteen days.

Brian Bilston
