@svenjacobs @ab @LeonOmelan AFAIK the bridging isn't good enough yet, but I've seen some people use this: fed.brid.gy/docs#fediverse-get

@svenjacobs @ab @LeonOmelan it's hard to maintain multiple social networks. I want my feed to include tech content from my friends in the community as well as also non-tech content from others.

I understand your frustration about the situation, but it's hard to advocate for Mastodon given its shortcomings.

2024-12-08

@LeonOmelan @svenjacobs @ab I don't understand. First you blame others for moving elsewhere for engagement. Then you get defensive when I try to engage with you? You do realize that you're only proving my point right?

I'm increasingly seeing hostility here towards people who are moving away, claiming that they're "chasing clout". No, my friend, people are moving because they never settled here.

2024-12-08

@LeonOmelan @svenjacobs @ab which audience are we referring to? There are barely any people left here. In fact, even at the peak of Mastodon's popularity we were missing half of the community members who either never joined up on Mastodon or created accounts but didn't find it appealing.

It's unfair to expect OSS maintainers to put in the effort of staying active in all networks.

2024-12-08

@svenjacobs @ab @LeonOmelan should we maintain separate social networks for each kind of content?

2024-12-08

@ab @LeonOmelan @svenjacobs I don't think this is true. People (including myself) moved there because bsky has a lot more normies. I was able to find people who're politicians, athletes, journalists, publications etc., who'd have never bothered with mastodon. Even my mum knows what bsky is. I don't think that'll ever happen with mastodon.

@nikhil > I knew where this was going
I'm curious, what do you think was their motive?

Congrats on the feature btw!

@gakisstylianos @ab Same. Bluesky has the same pre-elon twitter vibe, something that mastodon wasn't able to achieve. Join us @ab!

Seeing small app studios get bought is always bittersweet. I am glad that they were able to make a lot of money, but there's a non-zero chance they will be shut down in the future. pixelmator.com/blog/2024/11/01

@ab @jessewilson I was also thinking about the ioniq 5!

TIL android uses play store names for searching through installed apps. Firefox includes "private browser" in its store name, which is why typing "priv" finds it.

One of the many joys of maintaining open source UI software is seeing my work in others' apps every now and then. I don't even need to check their licenses page -- I can tell it's my code by simply looking at how the pixels move and react to my touch interactions.

@zachklipp I am already missing the SF evenings, and I was only there for a week.

@deobald what did you replace keep with?

I'm trying out `LazyLayout()` for displaying sub-sampled images in telephoto based on a suggestion from @ryan, and… this might actually work.

@apoorvk If I were testing a class that stores data, I would either use a real in-memory storage from something like SQLDelight, or create a fake implementation that is fully controlled by my tests:

@apoorvk It sounds like you're storing actual logic in your fakes? Your fakes shouldn't need their own tests. This is also something I dislike about the article I shared above -- this isn't a good fake:
