November 1. 78 degrees. This just feels all wrong.
If AI can digitally replicate a voice and a face in realtime onscreen, what are the implications for business?
It seems that we'll either need a trust/verification system for identity beyond "I recognize the person on-screen" AND we'll have to return to in-person face-to-face meetings because the AI can't (yet) replicate a human in the real world.
A person I know who is in the early stages of a career in accessibility is hoping to find a screen reader user with web development experience to mentor them for a while. They're a screen reader user themselves and they want to level-up their knowledge of HTML/CSS/JavaScript/ARIA in order to offer better recommendations when testing for accessibility. If this is you, or if you know someone it might be, drop me a DM? Thanks.
@mlanger Keeping in mind that I'm not an artist, I think that the stones at the top compete with the interesting lines of turquoise (?) at the bottom. Better without the extra at the top? So ditch the stones, move the hole down to roughly where the middle stone is and slim down the top part?
Bezos' hiring of Lewis was his shift from hands-off messiah to Murdochian moguling. His endorsement nihilism is cynical transactionalism: If Trump wins, he has a friend; if Harris wins, she is too responsible to be vindictive in regulation or contracts. He wins either way. His #BrokenPost is lost in every way and he clearly does not care. There is no saving the Post from its savior.
A newspaper owner makes editorial decisions.
I make newspaper buying decisions.
@djwfyi I just tried to visualize that and I think my brain broke. That's like....like putting on my winter coat before putting on pants.
@kissane Fantastic. Thank you.
I'd talked myself out of posting a written version of the We Fix the Networks talk I did at XOXO because talks are performances and don't translate well to the cold medium of text.
Also, frankly, this was an emotionally vulnerable talk for me, and I fucking hate feelings.
But video is not great for lots of people and y'all are presumably aware enough to know that a talk and an essay are different things, so here:
@charlotteclymer I love this. Also, I see exactly two colors that won’t look TERRIBLE on me.
Same vibes. https://mastodon.world/@time/113343116806874054

@gannet It's better than coffee??
@gannet One of the easiest ways to evaluate the quality of a catering operation. If they pay attention to NEVER using the hot-water urns for coffee, it's a good sign.
