A new accessibility strategy for the GOV.UK Design System
“A world that doesn’t have privacy is a world where the power structures that exist now are cemented, almost impossible to perturb, and authoritarianism thrives in these conditions.”- @Mer__edith https://themarkup.org/hello-world/2023/01/07/back-into-the-trenches-of-the-crypto-wars
At some point we're gonna have to admit the crime panic of the early 20s was some serious goddamn bullshit aimed to blunt the momentum of BLM-driven police reform.

“Hardware eventually fails. Software eventually works.” – Michael Hartung
“If you’re trying to get through your work as quickly as you can, then maybe you should see if you can find a different line of work. And if you’re trying to get through your leisure-time reading and watching and listening as quickly as you can, then you definitely do not understand the meaning of leisure and should do a thorough rethink.”
I like this kind of Humor.
@shashashasha Thanks for creating this! 🙌
I did a talk at the Civic Design conference a couple months ago, and the first day's theme was about the decade cycle. I ended up looking back pretty far – fifty years back to disability rights activists, urban planners, and architects who've influenced the field we might call civic tech today.
We translated my talk into a post, where I try to advocate for understanding our own roots, rather than thinking of ourselves and new and shiny:

Imagine if, instead of paying a one off fee for your landfill waste, you had to pay rent on it forever. Bit more realistic on the effect of all that plastic. Maybe put the rent/week price on the packaging when you buy it
@stevenjmesser I've got about 8 open in tabs to read over the next day or two. 😆 Will keep you posted on any favourites!!
All computer software published in 1927 and earlier is now fully public domain, abandonware or not.
Alright nerds, what are you putting on your 2023 bingo cards??
The year is 2295. You are staring at a computer screen waiting for it to finish. In your hundreds of years of life you have seen more things than you can describe, tasted joys and despairs your self of the early 21st century could not have imagined. But right now you are staring at a computer screen, waiting for it to finish installing the "Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable"
40 years ago today (1’st January 1983) was transition day for the #ARPANET. So started TCP/IP and UDP for that matter, as its full time networking protocol. The Internet was born. Here’s my transition workbook from 1982 which I still have in my possession. I wrote a lot of code based on that book. (FYI: picture is from ten years ago - I had less gray/grey hair)
