@Spanglor @shezza_t Yeah, you know something is wrong when I've to do the social bit.
Slightly nerdy bloke in his mid-forties from Belfast.
@kavey Yes, without your phone, it looked a lot less impressive, but you could see something wasn't quite right with the sky.

@hollie Yes, it's a fairly open secret that a lot of the photos (including my own) don't look anywhere near as impressive in real life!
@hollie Well, that didn't take long!
@kavey We live close to the city centre and could see it. If you are worried about light pollution, St Alban's may not be an issue.
@hollie That's a poor picture compared to a lot of other local ones.
I've been to Iceland several times, Greenland twice. Not a sign of the Northern Lights. Today, I can see them from my house which is in suburban Belfast!
@Bronwyn Am now thinking about the Irish name "Seamus"...
@shezza_t Yes, that's perfectly acceptable.
@shezza_t Is that really a "Gen X" thing to be doing?
@shezza_t When I saw it, I had a slight chuckle. I suspect if I showed this to any of my work colleagues, they'd be completely confused.
Tech bros love to boast about moving fast and breaking things, so it comes as some relief to find an instance where they've moved at a more stately 17 knots and yet still utterly fucked it.
In this case the "it" being carpool vehicles. Programmed to treat movement without the engine being switched on as either theft or witchcraft, they instantly bricked themselves in response.
What happened when these vehicles travelled by ferry was perhaps predictable...
(unrelated pic!)
@andrewg It's definitely on the list of contenders. I like the idea of a local timeline that might be interesting.
Just found out from a friend who has moved Mastodon instances, that my instance is blocked on his one. Also have noticed that my timeline is quieter than it used to be.
One of this weekend's tasks might be to choose a new instance and migrate. This sounds like a task that I will spend a lot of time overthinking!
@Bronwyn I normally get "seen" by anyone who hasn't heard my name. They probably call me "Señor presente de subjuntivo" behind my back.
The proper Irish spelling of my name should be "Seán". Don't know how that would be pronounced.
