Amongst other things, there's an open source software supply chain story here.
This Android library with 174 stars and one maintainer has taken down Monday.com, Eventbrite (!!!), UPS, Kraken, Lowe's, YBS, IKEA, Agibank, iFood, PagBank, pago.ro, and Udemy.
Again, this is the same failure mode that caused outages in 2023.

The Trump administration is setting a new norm, that wearing masks while being an armed law enforcer is normal.
Criminals will take advantage of this. It is nothing new that hardcore criminals disguise as police, but what is new is, this disguise can now be worn while being masked, and it will not look out of the ordinary.
Criminals will be able to abduct anybody anywhere while wearing police gear, guns, AND masks, and no one will be able to know if they are real or fake.
@tommorris this was bound to happen after the DEI rollback. No matter what Bill Gates says.
Good news: GitHub Copilot is scared shitless of the concept of gender.
Instead of foo, bar and baz, use “genderqueer”, “demisexual” and “leather_daddy” and you’ll reduce the likelihood of getting a spammy PR from a sad robot.

The fundraising as a discrete action in the service of raising money worked as expected, Democrats just didn't have hands for an emerging geopolitical situation and thought they knew what their own would-be-voters would stomach and put up with?
This is part of the OP critique that revolves around 'missing the moment to fundraise'.
I mean, you can dryly say that 'they got hit by a bus on their way to winning' but a lot of people are onto the next step of 'why are they always getting blindsided like this on their way to winning?'
I’ve been kind of waiting for you to drop the mask and just say how much you don’t respect voters. You know people can tell when you don’t respect them, right?
If there's anything that illustrated the hollowness of the Democratic Party as an effective opposition for me, it's this.
Yesterday, I watched a video of a sitting US Senator being thrown to the ground and cuffed by fed goons for asking questions of the fed official he has direct oversight authority over.
Within minutes, I'd gotten DOZENS of texts from Dems and Dem orgs asking for $5-$50 to "fight fascism."
That's it. "Are you terrified that your country is slipping into fascism? Pay me."

WHAT IF CANADA STOPPED UPHOLDING U.S. TECH COMPANIES’ INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY?
Canada shouldn’t retaliate with US tariffs—it should hit the USA where it hurts, instead
This article from Cory Doctorow ( @pluralistic ) spells out how countries should react to trump's #Tariffs schemes: Start rolling back agreed #IP protections that were part of the trade agreements he has torn up.

If you fancy reading some academic political research this weekend why not try this article from Policy Studies Journal on how voters understand 'short term' & 'long term' in policy making.
Voters mostly see 'long term' as 5-10 years, and so when the 'real' long-term of 50 years is discussed voters are often dismissive of such benefits as too far away.
If the political class see things differently (which they often do) then a democratic disconnect ensues.

@http_error_418 @david_preston @Richard_Littler I would like to know why is the other man in the picture holding juggling pins??
@loke this is an excellent use case for AI actually if you’re looking for meaningless, corporate sludge, just ask ChatGPT exactly what you asked here. 😇
@eff @pluralistic @arstechnica Ah, so the whole "AI" thing is transforming from a simple grift to an MLM-like cult. I've been expecting that.
You're not alone in feeling overwhelmed. This is another good explainer for why I keep referencing the fall of the Soviet Union when I talk about the current US situation.
