Hi! I'm Silver Eagle 🥈🦅. He/🥚/They, Furry, LGBTQ+ 🏳️‍🌈, Leftist, Open-source Software Developer and Disability/Accessibility Advocate.

Friend of mine made this and...I can't even

Simpsons "Do it for her" meme picture but with pictures of my furry OC all over it

It's shit like this, Windows...

In the Explorer UI, if you wanted to move something "up" a directory into a parent one, you could just literally click and drag it to the parent directory in the file listing.

In the newest reworked Explorer, not only have they pulled this feature, but they went through the effort of showing a "Can't do this" cursor when trying to do it.

This was an immense time-saver for a lot of little things I do, and they could've left well enough alone, but they went through the effort to not only remove it as a feature but to really drive home that it's missing. That's pretty fucked.

So, like, I worry that a lotta people assumed that Unity totally walked back all their changes after the very public uproar, but actually they didn't...their ridiculous Runtime fee still very much will apply to Pro/Enterprise users, and while they're not charging it retroactively, it's basically a big warning sign that the next thing you build shouldn't be in Unity.

The CEO "retiring" is certainly a move in the right direction, but they didn't actually unravel the goodwill-burning machine just yet.

Probably the closest I've found so far is the logo for the game Buried, but I swear there's something that almost perfectly matches this

The "Buried" game logo.

I 100% recognize the font that Patreon's using in their new logotype but I don't remember where I've seen it before and it's driving me nuts

Like...a TV show's title card maybe?

The new Patreon logotype

Chrome: We're automatically opting you in to a new feature that sends your home address to advertisers but puts little asterisks over parts of it, and we're calling it Ultimate Privacy Protection

Firefox: We're encrypting every step of the DNS and HTTP connection process so nobody on the planet can know what you're doing online, because fuck anyone who would want to know

These two are not the same and should not be regarded as equals

Capitalism is every fucking company you know and love chasing the next terrible idea because there's idiots with millions in venture capital throwing money at anyone who drops the right buzzwords, meanwhile all the rest of us are left on the backest fucking burner

@eri This page is full of gems but this is my favorite

Header: "Has an HDMI Output"

Banana: No (Red X)
NVidia GeForce RTX 4090: Yes (Green Check)

So I threw my media library at Jellyfin, and I've discovered that not only does it have a pretty robust ecosystem of player apps, but it also seems to support "Special" seasons of shows better than Plex does. Sold!

The people making those totally nuts songs that are only meant to be super hard in Beat Saber be like

Scientist meme, upper text "FINALLY", lower text "DIFFICULT LISTENING"

Obviously nobody should be taking out their anger on Unity staff in any form, but this article from The Verge about the recent threats has the any% speedrun world record on painting a portrait of the most hateable person you can imagine

'Riccitiello himself became a central figure of the controversy as some see him as the driving force behind the new model. He was the CEO of Electronic Arts when the controversial loot box monetization was added to FIFA 09. He made news when he called developers “fucking idiots” over some developers’ reluctance to introduce monetization schemes earlier in the development process. There’s also the infamous clip of Riccitiello talking during a shareholder call about charging Battlefield players a dollar to reload their guns. The Unity CEO also raised eyebrows this week when it was reported that he sold off 2,000 Unity shares right before the company announced this news — with the stock price seeing a significant drop thereafter."

Ubisoft: Okay, so what do people want?
The people: Forza Horizon?
Ubisoft: Okay! We'll make exactly that! No changes at all.
The people: But what's the unique appeal then?
Ubisoft: It'll be a hundred fuckin dollars

Is it weird that I can picture, in vivid detail, Richard Stallman belching this entire thing out between bites of his toejam at some kid who admires him more than anything and just wanted to spin up a web server

A screenshot from GNU's list of words to avoid: "LAMP system": “LAMP” stands for “Linux, Apache, MySQL and PHP”—a common combination of software to use on a web server, except that “Linux” in this context really refers to the GNU/Linux system. So instead of “LAMP” it should be “GLAMP”: “GNU, Linux, Apache, MySQL and PHP.”

So Fosstodon has updated their policies to remove the "English-Only" rule after putting it to a vote by their patrons.

The vote was actually remarkably close.

A Patreon poll between "Stay English Only" (48%) and "Any Language, Any Time" (52%) - Poll ended Aug 25, 2023 with 236 votes total
