Two lists of #OA journals in #geography, #planning, #UrbanStudies :
- https://aesop-youngacademics.net/list-of-oa-journals
If there's a #transport & #mobilities list, I would be very interested, else it is on my 2025 to do list!
As @simtulum noted elsewhere:
- shifts towards OA have been made in various languages: ES, PT, FR, ...
- it is mostly journals in English that "resist" this shift, while at the same time still being considered "better" than other journals...
@academicchatter
The only good news is that European lefts will stop telling the fable of a #Portugal that never existed in the first place
The multiplication of scams (fast-track review, hybrid journals, transfers to gold OA journals...) by corporate academic publishers simply shows the system is crumbling down. True "diamond" OA in journals held by uni depts and academic associations is the obvious, fair future

One of the cool things in taking part in defenses of PhD projects and theses is realising how damn better new generations are compared to, at the very least, mine. Hell, I and my fellow candidates would had never managed to put together a project like those at that time
#airbnb wants more - well, capitalism always wants more. There's a simple solution to the relentless exploitation by platforms: banning for-profit short to medium term rental (true "sharing" happens outside corporate capitalism)

Novo artigo.

@Mattiasdebacker thanks! She's great, definitely better than the parents :)
As we are interested, besides ontology and materiality, on the epistemology of urban violence, we conclude each chapter with a section (Researching Urban Violence) where we exemplify how the conceptual work can be mobilised empirically and analitically. 3/3
By articulating political economy and vital materialism, we argue that urban violence can be framed as a precise category shaped by three interlocking trajectories:
the process of (capitalist) urbanization, the spatio-political project of the urban, and the concrete urban atmospheres in and through which the process and the project materialize, often violently so, in the urban. 2/
We start by arguing that urban violence is under-theorized because long-term theoretical problems with both "urban" and "violence", thereby building on the rich literature on these concepts.
What is the urban in urban violence? And how can ‘urban’ and ‘violence’ be articulated in a way that makes urban violence a category with both analytical and strategic power? These are the problems we engage with through a genealogical work. 1/
Urban Violence: Security, Imaginary, Atmosphere, the result of some years of writing with Andrea Pavoni is out. The hardback is crazy expensive, but the paperback should be out in reasonable timing (hit me for a discount flyer for the HB or eBook) https://t.co/NIFl9wlcPM
While digging on the politics of housing financialization, found this excellent special issue on Eastern European cases

Looks like
Routledge has eventually censored the important Sexual Misconduct in Academia. Informing An Ethics of Care in the University (ed by
E Pritchard and D Edwards) because of the cease and desist letter of an anonymous PT lawyer. No information has been provided regarding the law firm and who is it representing (easy imagining where is this coming from). A global firm deciding to pick the side of power against the exposure of sexual misconduct. Shameful

today I've finished listening
@evgenymorozov@quitter.se's The Santiago Boys. There would be much to say, especially on the West's pretense of leading the world in innovation and technology. Just listen the podcast, it's great
