Just got my , and apparently I'm in the top 16% of mastodon users with 50 posts this year. That's a surprisingly high position for so few posts. Is mastodon really that quiet a place?

@htammen @ceedee666 @qmacro @koehntopp @jspath55 We all have different reasons for being here (or there, or that other place) and use social media for different reasons. For me, there's a critical mass of people I look to have conversations with and they're spread across multiple platforms (mostly not here). Thankfully I just want to chat, not swim 😃

@jspath55 @koehntopp @htammen @ceedee666 @qmacro I like that! That's essentially what I'm currently doing. I have one "main" platform and periodically dip in and out of the others. That one was Threads until recently but might soon be Bluesky. I don't think it will ever be here.

@koehntopp @htammen @ceedee666 @qmacro @jspath55 I know that feeling. I'm in the middle of a bit of a social media reset, unfollowing a load of accounts and trying to generally cut down.

Until recently "my" people were mostly either here or on Threads (or nowhere/Xitter) and I was hoping federation would let me pick one but Threads is moving very slowly with that. Now, though, the majority have appeared on Bluesky and if I had to pick one it would be that. I'm not quite there yet, but I might.

@htammen @ceedee666 @qmacro @koehntopp @jspath55 Of course, but if the people you want to interact with are spread across multiple platforms that just means you end up missing out.

Social media isn't very social if you the people you want to have conversations with are somewhere else!

@ceedee666 @qmacro @koehntopp @jspath55 It seems like a bunch of the old "SAP twitter folk" that haven't shown up anywhere else have now started showing up on Bluesky. Maybe that's the place we'll all end up? Who knows? For now, keeping a presence in multiple places is the only way.

@qmacro @jspath55 Having just responded over on Bluesky to one of these repeated posts I have to say that's a bit confusing. If I don't visit your account to see the pinned post how would I know you won't see my reply?

@koehntopp @qmacro @jspath55 I don't think Bluesky are likely to ever federate with Mastodon - different protocols with different properties, for deliberately chosen reasons. As much as I'd also like to see one big federated happy family I don't see it happening.

Wait, what? ? Here? Visible from my garden? Not something I ever expected!

@se38 @jspath55 Twitter was a much easier decision. That's just not a place I want to be anymore. I've mostly moved over to Threads now, but drop in here from time to time. There's no real SAP-related activity over on threads, hence the recent TechEd posts here.

I do miss the conversations that happened on Twitter alongside these big conferences. There's no real social media based SAP Community anymore, since we all mostly abandoned xitter.

@se38 @jspath55 Yes, the SAP Community was just not engaging for me anymore. I had pretty much stopped using it but left my account there for a good few years. Eventually I decided it was time. Now I hear it has been re-platformed (again) and that hasn't gone smoothly (again). I think I just about made it to 20 years (I joined SDN in 2004).

SAPgui in a live demo? Unexpected, but nice to see it isn't dead yet... 😃

@drajt The keynote? Agreed. A lot of the other sessions are similar. They are almost all 25 minutes (20 + 5 for Q&A) which is nowhere near enough for useful technical content. One or two good ones today, but mostly too much fluff.

I'm assuming the in-person "TechEd on Tour" sessions will be better - they are at least longer. 🤞

Just gone through the session catalog and given myself a very busy two days on Tuesday/Wednesday! I'll just about have time for lunch and to refill the coffee cup. Just about.

@jspath55 @gregorw Indeed. I've never been to NOLA but I've heard good things.
