🚴 Helsinki just went a full year without a single traffic death

「 Roni Utriainen, a traffic engineer with the city’s Urban Environment Division, told the Finnish press that the achievement was attributable to “a lot of factors … but speed limits are one of the most important.” 」

@loops This is all nice but Android users still can't install Loops via an app store 🙈

If you genuinely believed you were 18 months from building a superintelligence that could cure cancer, you probably wouldn't pivot the entire company to horny chatbots. But I'm just a person with priorities. Maybe the path to solving death really does go through AI girlfriends. I don't have an MBA.

There has been some uproar on Mastodon about Proton revealing customer details to the FBI.

Read the official response here: reddit.com/r/ProtonMail/commen

Basically:
- International police forces sometimes help each other out with cases
- The FBI asked the Swiss police for help
- The request passed all Swiss legal checks
- Request was approved because a police officer got shot and explosives were found
- Only payment information was handed over
- The user could have paid anonymously with crypto/cash

@knowprose @josephcox Their response is actually quite reasonable: reddit.com/r/ProtonMail/commen

The events that occurred have been sensationalized.

@iamkonstantin It appears that I'm missing some context of recent events. What strikes me is that the one MEP who replied to me is listed as supporting Chat Control on fightchatcontrol.eu 🤯 She said "Er mag wat mij betreft nooit sprake zijn van massale scanning van privécommunicatie. Als liberaal zou ik dat nooit accepteren."

@iamkonstantin "one can tell that not many have reached out to their MEPs"

Woah, jumping to conclusions there. I contacted several MEPs and only got a response from one.

We're putting together some grant applications, and are wondering what skills and availability exist in our wider community 🧑‍🏭✨

We're particularly looking for people who can do feature work and technical management around things like GNOME, Flatpak, systemd, Freedesktop, Pipewire, ModemManager, etc.

Contact us if you think you'd be a good fit, either DM or email hi@modal.cx

@GrapheneOS Congrats on diversifying from Google phones! With Google tightening control of their ecosystem, it's good to have more options.

For geopolitical reasons, I'm also hoping that a European manufacturer will join your example.

@felicitas.pojtinger.com Speaking of Germany, have you heard about Wero yet? It's an upcoming pan-European mobile payment solution replacing several national systems. If we could convince Wero to support Linux, that would have a big international impact.
