Always trying to look at the bright side of life, always amazed by the amount of human stupidity. Bumpy ride ahead. Fasten seatbelts, trays in upright position.
@luana
English: bell pepper or sweet pepper is the big red/green/yellow non-spicy vegetable
Chili pepper are the small spicy ones
Black pepper is the small black spice that you grind
Pepperoni is a US Salami (look out, vegetarians, when you order a pizza in the US!)
It's a rainy, windy, cold morning.
And some schoolkids find it cool to wear oversized, open crocs with thick wooly socks.
I just don't get it...

And yet some find it cool to wear oversized, open crocs with thick socks.
Today's Musical Mood on Linie 10:

Und wir dachten, nur Chauffeure und Taxifahrer würden durch selbstfahrende Autos ihre Arbeit verlieren...
Netflix just got extremely silly: it now has "zodiac-based recommendations"
Ok, so apparently you can now choose to get "Virgo" recommendations. Nothing indecent here, but Virgos are apparently tidy-freaks, so they get Maria Kondo recommended.
Now, I would think the last thing a very orderly person would want to watch is a show about getting your life ordered. IT ALREADY IS!
And what does it tell you about yourself if your starsign gets the Monster Series recommended? Oh dear....
@Reinald true, but knowing the kind of people that live >50km away from a city with such a store, they're are the kind who have a lot of reserve food in the cellar ;-)
@GalbinusCaeli that is one of the challenges, as Denmark is a country where cash is being used less and less (currently about 10% of payments in physical shops are in cash).
According to the Danish National Bank, over 80% of adults have a bank card that can be used even if the network goes down. The payment is stored on premise and then cleared at a later moment when connectivity is reestablished.
@makdaam @angelastella The Danish government recommends that everybody has enough basic stuff (food, water, medicine, etc) to be able to live "off-grid" for three days.
The thought is that it would give time to get the large scale emergency response up and running or "solve" limited emergencies (like a 24h nationwide power outage) on its own.
@carl ...or any other kind of emergency. These stores could have been useful a couple of times in the recent years
@hologram the Danish project was launched by the Salling group, a private corporation and the largest retailer in Denmark.
Plot twist: Salling is owned by a foundation that plows profits back into society by way of grants, donations and support of education, sport, culture and social work.
@GhostOnTheHalfShell this will indeed not solve week-long disruptions but are more thought of as "overload safety valves" for the system if logistics breaks down for whatever reason.
There will always be people that are caught out without necessities or that start panic buying bc they are afraid nothing will be available if they dont get it right now. That's the situation they intend to minimize.
@angelastella indeed, fallout shelters are good and necessary for some emergency situations, these cater for (relative short) breakdowns in infrastructure and logistics, whatever the cause.
Just to expand the story a bit, the idea is to add this emergency capacity to existing stores around the country. Makes sense instead of creating new infrastructure and people would be familiar with these points of sale.
Interesting: a Danish supermarket chain is setting up "Emergency Stores" that can keep open for up to three days without power or telecom and store an expanded stock of non-perishable food and essentials.
The idea is that no one should be more than 50 km from such a store and it should prevent hoarding/panic buying as people will know basic food will be available in an emergency.
Should be rolled out in 2028 at the latest.
