@whynothugo @gcluley What makes you think Google doesn't already use theirs for censorship? The original idea of DNS was to be a distributed system, without a central entity. While that is still theoretically true, most people & organizations default to Google, giving them unnecessary power. So any alternative should be most welcome. There are many privacy respecting, secure DNS resolvers, but that is a relative niche. The EU pushing this should make it more available to the everyday person, too

@dentangle @pat_dev @timbray Indeed, the whole point of this project seems to be (and should be) to not rely on big tech anymore. Hosting with Amazon seems to really not fit the bill here.

@Rin3d @nixCraft I'm selfhosting almost anything for some years now. Initially I felt the same frustration, but then I discovered Tailscale and networking stopped being the hurdle. Have you given it a try?

@Microplastics101 @DoNotPunchDown @maxleibman @Tarnport Also, if you're not using a Pixel phone and want to degoogle or jusy regain some control of your phone, have a look at CalyxOS. GrapheneOS only supports Pixel phones, whereas Calyx runs on a number of other phones as well.
